Primary Functions

  • Conduct professional client consultations to identify haircut, shave, and styling preferences, assess hair texture and growth patterns, and provide tailored recommendation plans that balance style, maintenance level, and client lifestyle.
  • Execute precision haircuts for men, women and children using clippers, scissors, razors and trimmers; perform fades, tapers, scissor-over-comb cuts, layered men’s styles and custom designs with consistent attention to symmetry and finish.
  • Provide traditional and modern straight-razor shaves, hot towel services, and facial grooming including detailed beard shaping, edge-ups, neckline cleanups and mustache trims using industry-standard tools and safety techniques.
  • Perform shampooing, conditioning, scalp massage, and basic scalp treatments designed to improve hair health, relieve tension, and prepare the hair for cutting or chemical services when required.
  • Apply chemical services within the scope of barbering (e.g., permanent wave, relaxers, color retouching, gray blending) where licensed to do so, following manufacturer guidelines and salon safety protocols.
  • Deliver personalized grooming advice and home-care regimens, recommending shampoo, conditioner, styling products, oils and beard balms to maintain looks and maximize retail sales.
  • Maintain strict sanitation, disinfection and sterilization protocols for tools, stations and work areas — including clipper blade cleaning, razor sanitation, towel handling and waste disposal — in compliance with local health codes and salon policy.
  • Accurately maintain client records including style preferences, product purchases, allergy or sensitivity notes and previous services to enable consistent service delivery on return visits.
  • Use point-of-sale (POS) systems to check clients in/out, process payments, manage gift cards, add retail item sales, and balance transaction logs at shift end.
  • Manage appointment calendars, coordinate walk-ins, and maintain effective time management to ensure punctual service delivery and minimize client wait times.
  • Actively upsell services and retail products, meet or exceed daily and monthly retail sales goals, and execute promotional campaigns and package offerings aligned with the salon’s revenue targets.
  • Maintain and organize barbering tools and station inventory (blades, combs, scissors, trimmers, towels, capes), proactively reordering supplies to avoid service interruptions and reduce waste.
  • Mentor and train apprentice barbers and junior staff on foundational cutting techniques, sanitation procedures, client communication and shop culture; provide constructive feedback and model best practices.
  • Resolve client complaints and service issues professionally and promptly, offering corrective services, adjustments or managerial escalation when appropriate to preserve client satisfaction and retention.
  • Contribute to shop cleanliness and opening/closing duties such as sweeping stations, laundering towels, restocking product displays and ensuring the reception area presents a professional image.
  • Participate in continuing education, manufacturer training and industry events to stay current on cutting techniques, trends (e.g., textured crops, skin fades), product innovations and safety standards.
  • Support marketing and client acquisition efforts by assisting with social media content (before/after photos, short video reels), client referrals, and community outreach events to build the shop’s local brand and foot traffic.
  • Coordinate with management on pricing, scheduling, shift coverage, and special events (weddings, photoshoots, corporate grooming days) including off-site mobile barber services when assigned.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as client retention, average ticket, retail attachment rate, and daily service counts; recommend operational improvements to increase efficiency and profitability.
  • Maintain compliance with state and local barbering regulations and licensing requirements, ensuring all certificates remain current and displayed according to law.
  • Implement safety practices for use of chemical products, maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and train team members on emergency procedures and allergy response protocols.
  • Create and maintain a professional, welcoming client experience through effective communication, professional appearance and consistent adherence to service standards and appointment times.
  • Personalize finishing touches including product application, blow-drying, styling and final client education on at-home maintenance to increase repeat business and positive reviews.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with inventory audits, place supply orders, manage stock rotation and coordinate with vendors to secure best pricing and product availability.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
