  • Prepare exam rooms, sterilize instruments, stock disposables, and maintain a clean, safe clinical environment that complies with infection control, OSHA and universal precautions.
  • Assist providers during examinations and minor procedures — position patients, pass instruments, suture assistance, apply dressings, and provide post-procedure instructions and wound care.
  • Perform medication reconciliation at each visit, review current medications and allergies, update the medication list in the EMR and alert providers to discrepancies or potential interactions.
  • Triage patient phone calls and secure messages; assess urgency, provide appropriate self-care instructions under protocol, and escalate to nursing or provider when indicated.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments, referrals to specialists, diagnostic testing and follow-through with referral documentation; assist patients with prior authorization and insurance verification when needed.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and legible documentation in the electronic medical record (Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, NextGen, eClinicalWorks or similar), adhering to charting best practices for coding and quality metrics.

  • Support behavioral health screening and screening initiatives (PHQ-9, GAD-7, depression, social determinants of health) and document results in the EMR for provider intervention.
  • Accurately collect and process insurance, demographic and consent documentation; obtain informed consent for routine procedures and document per policy.
