  • Drive product engineering excellence through hiring, mentoring, performance management, and the creation of career ladders, technical learning programs, and engineering best practices.
  • Establish and monitor engineering metrics (cycle time, lead time, deployment frequency, mean time to recovery, defect rate) and use data-driven decision-making to continuously improve delivery lifecycle efficiency.
  • Lead the selection, negotiation, and management of technology vendors, strategic suppliers, and third-party partners to ensure SLA/contract compliance, cost control, and alignment to roadmap deliverables.
  • Collaborate with product, sales, marketing, and operations to translate business requirements into technical solutions, ensuring time-to-market and quality tradeoffs are transparent and well-communicated.
  • Design and implement observability, monitoring, and logging frameworks so production issues are detected early, prioritized, and resolved with clear RCA processes and remediation tracking.
  • Champion data strategy and analytics capabilities (data engineering, data quality, governance, BI, and ML/AI enablement) to transform data into measurable business insights and product enhancements.
  • Own technical risk management and business continuity planning β€” lead disaster recovery planning, backup strategies, capacity planning, and penetration testing programs.
  • Lead digital transformation projects that modernize customer experiences, enable self-service, migrate legacy monoliths to microservices, and accelerate time to value for customers.
  • Create and present clear technology roadmaps, risk profiles, and investment cases to the executive team and board of directors; translate technical complexity into business outcomes and ROI.
  • Manage the technology operating budget and capital expenditure planning, driving disciplined P&L stewardship, cost-benefit analysis, and value-based prioritization.
  • Oversee product/platform release strategy, including release scheduling, feature flagging, canary testing, and coordinated cross-functional launches to ensure reliable delivery and minimal disruption.
  • Implement and evangelize DevOps culture and practices (CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, infrastructure as code) to improve deployment frequency and reduce lead times while maintaining high-quality output.
  • Mentor senior technical leaders (engineering managers, architects, data leads), define leadership expectations, and hold teams accountable for outcomes, career progression, and onboarding of technical talent.
  • Drive a customer-centric engineering mindset: prioritize performance, reliability, and user experience; use telemetry and user feedback to guide product improvements and technical tradeoffs.
  • Ensure compliance with information security, privacy, and regulatory requirements, collaborating with legal, compliance, and external auditors to successfully pass assessments and certifications (e.g., SOC2, ISO 27001).
  • Define and maintain clear incident management and communication protocols for both internal stakeholders and external customers, ensuring transparency and swift remediation during outages.
  • Lead innovation initiatives, proof-of-concepts, and adoption of emerging technologies (AI/ML, edge computing, serverless, container orchestration) that deliver competitive advantages and new revenue streams.
  • Establish cross-functional governance bodies (architecture review boards, security councils) to ensure that major technical decisions are reviewed for scalability, security, and alignment with strategy.
  • Create talent acquisition strategies with recruiting partners to scale engineering teams responsibly, reduce time-to-hire, and improve retention through culture, compensation benchmarking, and remote/hybrid hiring models.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
  • Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team.
  • Provide executive-level updates to stakeholders and present post-mortem summaries after major incidents or releases.
  • Participate in customer and partner engagements to convey technical strategy and assess integration requirements.
  • Review and approve major architecture changes, procurement decisions, and high-impact technical proposals.
