Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Greet and proactively engage customers, identify their needs, and provide friendly, personalized styling advice and product recommendations aligned with individual tastes and store promotions to convert visits into sales.
  • Achieve and consistently exceed daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets and KPIs by using effective suggestive selling, cross-selling, and add-on strategies that increase average transaction value.
  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently — process purchases, exchanges, returns, layaways, gift cards, and special orders while adhering to company cash handling and credit procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date, deep product knowledge across all merchandise categories (fabrication, fit, sizing, care instructions, and seasonality) and communicate relevant benefits and features to customers.
  • Execute visual merchandising standards and floor sets precisely, including mannequins, signage, size runs, and promotional displays to maximize product visibility and drive conversion.
  • Receive, unpack, price and label incoming shipments; verify shipments against invoices and promptly report discrepancies; replenish sales floor stock to maintain proper size and style availability.
  • Manage fitting room operations — maintain cleanliness and organization, monitor occupancy, provide timely assistance, and return unsold items to proper displays to optimize customer flow and store presentation.
  • Deliver prompt, courteous resolution to customer inquiries and complaints, escalating issues to management as necessary while preserving customer satisfaction and protecting company reputation.
  • Support omnichannel retailing by assisting with in-store pickup, ship-from-store, curbside pickup, and returns for online orders, ensuring a seamless customer experience across channels.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts, cycle counts, and assist with annual physical inventories; identify and report shrink, damaged goods, and discrepancies to minimize loss and improve inventory accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with all loss prevention policies and procedures, including monitoring suspicious behavior, following cash handling controls, and maintaining secure storage and tagging of high-value items.
  • Open and close the store according to company procedures, including completing daily checklists, securing merchandise, performing cash reconciliation, and preparing the store for the next business day.
  • Provide product styling sessions and wardrobe consultations for customers, building long-term client relationships and maintaining a clienteling CRM (collecting contact info and purchase preferences) to drive repeat business.
  • Train, mentor, and support new hires and seasonal staff on POS operation, customer service standards, visual merchandising, and store policies to maintain consistent service levels.
  • Prepare and submit daily sales, conversion, and customer feedback reports; communicate trends and customer insights to store management to inform buying and merchandising decisions.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of store events, promotions, trunk shows, and local marketing initiatives that drive foot traffic and increase brand awareness in the community.
  • Keep sales floor, fitting rooms, and stockroom organized and visually appealing; perform housekeeping tasks such as folding, steaming, and organizing merchandise to maintain brand standards.
  • Adhere to all safety, sanitation, and workplace hygiene policies; report hazards and participate in routine safety checks to protect employees and customers.
  • Support pricing strategy by ensuring accurate price markdowns, promotional tags, and clearance signage are implemented on schedule and in accordance with corporate guidelines.
  • Actively solicit customer feedback and reviews, capture loyalty program enrollments, and promote store/app promotions to grow the customer base and increase lifetime value.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with visual merchandising, inventory, and e-commerce teams to support omni-channel initiatives, special projects, and store optimizations.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with non-sales operational tasks during slow periods, such as replenishment, re-tagging, and organizing backstock for better accessibility and presentation.
  • Participate in weekly team huddles and training sessions, sharing customer insights and merchandising ideas to help the store adapt to local demand.
