- Establish monitoring, observability and SRE practices for the cloud target state, including metrics, logging, tracing, SLIs/SLOs, alerts and runbook creation to ensure reliability and operational excellence.
- Create detailed project plans, resource estimates and risk registers for cloud transformation initiatives; track milestones and dependencies and provide transparent program reporting to stakeholders.
- Work with procurement and legal teams to evaluate managed services (PaaS, SaaS) and third-party vendor offerings for security, resilience, scalability and integration costs as part of the cloud transformation strategy.
- Coach and mentor client engineering, operations and security teams on cloud-native patterns, automation-first mentality, and migration tooling adoption to build internal capabilities and reduce long-term vendor dependency.
- Perform architecture and design reviews for application teams to ensure compliance with the defined cloud strategy, security posture and cost governance expectations prior to migration and production deployment.
- Design disaster recovery and business continuity strategies for cloud-hosted services including RPO/RTO targets, cross-region failover patterns and backup/restore procedures aligned with business risk tolerance.
- Identify legacy modernization opportunities and recommend refactor/replatform approaches (containers, managed services, serverless) to reduce maintenance cost and improve time-to-market.
- Define tagging strategies, organizational units, account structures and policies for cloud accounts to support governance, billing allocation and security boundary management at scale.
- Develop and document migration toolchains and partner ecosystem engagements to accelerate large-scale migrations including lift-and-shift tooling, data replication tools, and managed database migration services.
- Drive continuous improvement: capture post-migration retrospectives, measure outcomes against defined business KPIs and iterate the cloud operating model, playbooks, and training plans accordingly.
- Provide strategic input on data residency, encryption and identity strategies to ensure secure and compliant cloud adoption across cross-border and regulated workloads.
- Collaborate with application product owners to define SLA expectations, deployment cadences and cloud-native release pipelines to shorten delivery cycles and reduce operational risk.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc cloud architecture reviews and exploratory proof-of-concepts for new workloads or third-party integrations.
- Contribute to the organization's cloud strategy and roadmap by supplying research on emerging cloud services, pricing changes, and best practices.
- Collaborate with business units to translate data, analytics, and application requirements into cloud engineering requirements and migration tasks.
- Participate in sprint planning, agile ceremonies and cross-functional migration squads to help remove dependencies and unblock delivery teams.
- Prepare client-facing deliverables such as strategy reports, migration plans, security matrices and executive summaries for stakeholder communication.
- Assist in internal enablement efforts: produce training materials, run brown-bag sessions and create templates for architecture reviews and migration checklists.
- Support vendor and partner management during implementation: validate partner deliverables, ensure architecture alignment and escalate integration issues to maintain program momentum.
- Undertake impact analysis for proposed cloud changes on licensing, contracts, and existing support agreements and coordinate remediation.
