Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead the end-to-end design strategy for product and brand initiatives, setting the vision, principles, and measurable objectives that align design outcomes to company KPIs such as conversion, retention, and NPS.
  • Build, scale and evangelize a cross-platform design system and component library that ensures consistency, accessibility (WCAG), and developer efficiency across web, mobile, and embedded experiences.
  • Manage and mentor a distributed team of product designers, visual designers, UX researchers, and motion designers — hiring top talent, running regular performance reviews, and cultivating a high-performance culture of craft and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with product leadership to define roadmaps and prioritize design work against business objectives, balancing short-term delivery with long-term product and brand health.
  • Oversee user research programs and usability testing practices to surface customer insights, refine hypotheses, and translate qualitative and quantitative findings into actionable design improvements.
  • Lead creative direction and art direction for major brand campaigns and product launches, ensuring all touchpoints—from acquisition funnels to in-product experiences—reflect a unified brand language.
  • Partner with engineering to define implementation patterns, create design tokens, and ensure design fidelity through handoffs, tooling (Figma/Storybook), and continuous QA.
  • Define and own design KPIs, reporting structures, and success metrics; present results and design impact to executive stakeholders and board members.
  • Drive cross-functional workshops (journey mapping, design sprints, co-creation sessions) to accelerate alignment, speed decision-making, and de-risk new product concepts.
  • Architect scalable workflows for efficient collaboration across design, product, and engineering—establishing clear processes for prioritization, versioning, and design reviews.
  • Spearhead internationalization and localization design strategies, ensuring product and brand experiences adapt for global audiences culturally and technically.
  • Integrate data and analytics into the design process—define A/B tests, funnel analyses, and growth experiments that guide iterative design improvements.
  • Balance innovation and delivery by championing research-backed experimentation (MVPs, prototypes) while maintaining delivery schedules for critical releases.
  • Maintain strong governance over brand standards, ensuring visual system, tone of voice, and content design remain coherent across all channels.
  • Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design, embedding accessibility requirements into product definition and QA, training teams to meet legal and ethical standards.
  • Serve as a primary stakeholder in go-to-market planning for major product features and brand initiatives, aligning creative output with marketing, sales, and customer success.
  • Drive cost-efficient creative production by optimizing vendor relationships, agency partnerships, and freelance networks while safeguarding brand quality.
  • Coach leaders and upskill teams on modern design practices such as atomic design, component-driven development, and motion design best practices.
  • Manage budget planning for the design organization—headcount, tooling, research programs, and external creative resources—ensuring ROI and resource allocation transparency.
  • Identify strategic opportunities to differentiate the product through design-led innovation, conceptualizing new product features, service design improvements, or visually disruptive brand moments.
  • Facilitate stakeholder communication to resolve trade-offs between user needs, business constraints, and technical feasibility, enabling pragmatic and elegant design solutions.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of the design org by establishing retrospectives, post-launch reviews, and learning cycles that convert outcomes into repeatable playbooks.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Industrial Design, Interaction Design, or related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Master's degree or advanced certification in Design Leadership, HCI, Business (MBA with design focus), or a comparable program.
