Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead end-to-end design for complex digital products by translating business goals and user research into wireframes, interactive prototypes, and pixel-perfect visual designs that align with product strategy and KPIs.
  • Plan and execute qualitative and quantitative user research (user interviews, usability testing, diary studies, surveys) to validate hypotheses, synthesize findings into clear insights, and drive iterative design decisions.
  • Design and maintain scalable design systems and component libraries, documenting patterns, accessibility guidelines, tokens, and usage rules to ensure consistency and accelerate delivery across multiple teams and platforms.
  • Create detailed interaction flows, information architectures, and user journeys that clarify user intent, reduce friction, and optimize conversion and retention metrics across web and mobile applications.
  • Rapidly prototype user interfaces using Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Proto.io, or similar tools to validate concepts with stakeholders and test usability before handoff to engineering.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers to define product requirements, prioritize features, set success metrics, and scope iterations that deliver the highest user and business value.
  • Partner with engineering teams to ensure accurate design implementation, including preparing redlines/specs, participating in grooming and sprint planning, and reviewing builds for visual and interaction fidelity.
  • Apply accessibility (WCAG) best practices to ensure inclusive design β€” implement semantic HTML/CSS considerations in design handoffs and validate with accessibility testing tools and audits.
  • Lead usability testing sessions and A/B experiments to measure the impact of design changes, analyze results with product analytics (Mixpanel, GA, Amplitude), and iterate based on data-driven insights.
  • Facilitate cross-functional design reviews and co-creation workshops with stakeholders, engineers, researchers, and marketing to build alignment and accelerate decision-making.
  • Translate complex workflows into simple, elegant experiences through information hierarchy, content strategy, and microcopy collaboration with content designers and product teams.
  • Develop and present design proposals, roadmaps, and rationale to senior leadership, substantiating recommendations with user insights, business impact, and feasibility analysis.
  • Advocate for and implement responsive design systems to deliver consistent, performant experiences across breakpoints and device types while optimizing for performance and accessibility.
  • Mentor junior designers through design reviews, portfolio feedback, and hands-on guidance to elevate team craft, design thinking, and process maturity.
  • Own post-launch analysis and iterative improvements by monitoring engagement and conversion metrics, logging issues, and prioritizing refinements for subsequent sprints.
  • Collaborate with marketing, brand, and localization teams to ensure product experiences are consistent with brand voice, visual identity, and are properly localized for target markets.
  • Build and manage design documentation, pattern libraries, and onboarding resources to reduce onboarding time, prevent design debt, and promote reuse across product teams.
  • Contribute to roadmap planning by estimating design effort, identifying technical and UX risks, and suggesting phased delivery approaches that allow early user validation.
  • Drive cross-team initiatives such as design ops improvements, tooling adoption (Figma plugins, versioning), and process optimizations to improve handoffs and increase throughput.
  • Serve as the design subject-matter expert during pre-launch QA and post-launch bug triage, ensuring user experience integrity and timely resolution of UX regressions.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to define instrumentation needs and track user behavior to surface opportunities for UX optimization and personalization.
  • Influence product strategy by conducting competitive audits, market analysis, and trend research to identify white-space opportunities and recommend innovative product directions.
  • Support commercialization efforts by designing onboarding flows, conversion funnels, pricing pages, and retention features that directly connect design work to revenue goals.

Secondary Functions

  • Provide ad-hoc design support for cross-functional requests, including pitch decks, design assets for marketing campaigns, and sales enablement materials when required.
  • Contribute to the organization's design strategy, hiring plans, and process documentation to scale design capabilities across multiple squads.
  • Act as a liaison between product, engineering, and support teams to synthesize user feedback into prioritized product improvements and backlog items.
  • Participate actively in agile ceremonies (sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives) to maintain alignment between design deliverables and engineering timelines.
  • Represent the design team at external events, recruitments, and customer interviews to evangelize design principles and attract talent.
  • Assist with vendor and agency evaluations when engaging external creative partners for specialized design work or research studies.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Expert-level proficiency in Figma (components, variants, auto-layout), with working knowledge of Sketch and Adobe XD for legacy or partner workflows.
  • Strong interaction design skills: wireframing, user flows, information architecture, and micro-interactions that improve usability and delight users.
