Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Greet customers promptly at the drive‑thru speaker, use polite and enthusiastic language, and follow brand voice and customer service standards to create a positive guest experience.
  • Accurately take and confirm customer orders using the headset and point‑of‑sale (POS) system, repeating orders back to ensure order accuracy and minimize errors.
  • Process payments quickly and securely — accept cash, credit/debit cards, mobile payments, and gift cards — following company cash‑handling procedures and reconciling tills at shift end.
  • Prepare and assemble food and beverage items to company recipe and portion standards, ensuring consistent quality, presentation, and temperature control.
  • Maintain speed of service metrics by prioritizing tasks, coordinating with kitchen staff, and managing multiple orders simultaneously during peak periods.
  • Verify order accuracy prior to handing items to customers, check for completeness (condiments, utensils, receipts), and correct any missing or incorrect items immediately.
  • Use contactless handoffs, window protocols, and clear communication to ensure safe and sanitary delivery of orders to customers.
  • Operate beverage machines, fryers, grills, and other equipment safely and according to manufacturer and company procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain food safety, sanitation and hygiene standards, following ServSafe/Food Handler guidelines and local health code requirements.
  • Follow allergen and special‑request procedures (e.g., no‑onion, dairy‑free), escalating to a supervisor when necessary to ensure guest safety and compliance.
  • Handle customer questions, concerns, and complaints professionally and efficiently; de‑escalate when needed and involve management for refunds or corrections.
  • Adhere to company up‑sell and suggestive selling scripts to increase average check and promote current promotions and limited‑time offers.
  • Keep the drive‑thru window, order station, and immediate exterior clean, stocked, and organized to ensure efficient throughput and a professional appearance.
  • Communicate clearly with kitchen and front‑of‑house teams using headsets and in‑person calls to coordinate order flow and minimize wait times.
  • Accurately enter voids, refunds, and order changes into the POS system following audit and loss‑prevention policies.
  • Receive and restock small deliveries and drive‑thru supplies (e.g., cups, lids, napkins) at the windowside to maintain uninterrupted service.
  • Follow opening, closing, and shift‑change checklists for the drive‑thru lane, including cash count, equipment checks, and incident reporting.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or health code concerns immediately to management to prevent service disruption and liability.
  • Maintain proactive awareness of local traffic and weather conditions that may affect drive‑thru flow and communicate adjustments to teammates for safety.
  • Meet individual and team performance targets for accuracy, speed of service, customer satisfaction, and sales, participating in coaching and performance reviews as required.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with light food prep or packaging tasks in the kitchen during slower periods to support continuity of service.
  • Support inventory counts of small‑wares, condiments, and disposables; report low stock to shift lead for replenishment.
  • Participate in safety and food‑safety training sessions, including COVID‑19 protocols, PPE use, and sanitation audits.
  • Help maintain exterior drive‑thru cleanliness, removing litter, sweeping lanes, and ensuring signage and lighting are in good condition.
  • Contribute to shift huddles and operational meetings to share feedback on flow issues, menu changes, and customer trends.
  • Input customer feedback and recurring issues into the shift log or customer‑experience tool to help management improve service.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting of drive‑thru hardware (headset connections, POS card reader connectivity) and escalate technical issues to maintenance.
  • Support special promotions, seasonal product rollouts, and limited‑time offers by following promotional checklists and upsell prompts.
  • When qualified, perform opening and closing procedures including safe cash deposit, cleaning checklists, and securing the drive‑thru window.
