Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform complex diagnostics on high-voltage (HV) electric vehicle systems, including battery packs, power inverters, and onboard chargers, using specialized software and diagnostic tools.
- Execute precise repairs and replacements of high-voltage components, such as electric drive units, battery modules, and high-voltage cabling, following strict safety protocols.
- Conduct routine maintenance and service on all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of the electric powertrain.
- Install, commission, and service both AC Level 2 and DC Fast Charging stations (EVSE) at commercial and residential sites.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to vehicle communication networks, including CAN, LIN, and Ethernet systems, to ensure all modules operate correctly.
- Execute vehicle software and firmware updates as mandated by manufacturers to enhance functionality, safety, and performance.
- Skillfully interpret complex electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical service bulletins for various electric vehicle models.
- Perform high-voltage system de-energization and re-energization (power-down and power-up) procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Calibrate Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), such as cameras and radar sensors, that are interconnected with the vehicle's primary control systems.
- Diagnose and repair thermal management systems for both the high-voltage battery and the vehicle cabin, including electric A/C compressors and coolant pumps.
- Conduct comprehensive battery health assessments, including state-of-health (SOH) analysis and insulation resistance testing.
- Manage the safe handling, storage, and shipping of high-voltage batteries and components in compliance with all environmental and safety regulations.
- Perform root cause analysis on recurring vehicle faults and charging failures to develop long-term solutions and provide feedback to engineering teams.
Secondary Functions
- Meticulously document all diagnostic steps, repair procedures, and parts used in our digital service management system to maintain accurate vehicle histories.
- Communicate technical findings, repair recommendations, and timelines clearly and effectively to service advisors and directly to customers.
- Maintain the workshop's specialized EV tools and diagnostic equipment, ensuring they are calibrated and in excellent working order.
- Assist in managing the inventory of critical EV-specific parts, components, and consumables to minimize vehicle downtime.
- Participate actively in ongoing manufacturer-led and internal technical training programs to stay at the forefront of evolving E-Mobility technology.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior technicians or traditional automotive mechanics transitioning to electric vehicle service.
- Support engineering and quality assurance teams by providing detailed field reports and data on component failures and vehicle performance.
- Uphold the highest standards of workshop cleanliness and organization, with a particular focus on the safety and security of the high-voltage service area.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- High-Voltage Systems Expertise: Proven experience and certification (e.g., ASE L3, OEM-specific HV training) in diagnosing and repairing high-voltage systems in electric or hybrid vehicles.
- EV Diagnostic Software Proficiency: Skilled in using OEM-specific diagnostic software (e.g., Tesla Toolbox, VW ODIS) and generic tools like CANalyzer for troubleshooting.
- Electrical Schematics Interpretation: Strong ability to read, understand, and apply complex electrical wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
