Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop and execute a comprehensive, multi-year global tax technology roadmap that aligns with the company's strategic objectives and addresses emerging digital tax compliance requirements.
- Lead the selection, implementation, and ongoing management of tax technology solutions, including but not limited to systems for income tax compliance, provision (ASC 740), transfer pricing, and indirect tax (e.g., ONESOURCE, Corptax, Vertex, Avalara).
- Oversee the automation of tax processes through the use of RPA (Robotic Process Automation), data analytics tools (Alteryx, Power BI), and other emerging technologies to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
- Act as the primary liaison between the Tax department, IT, and Finance, ensuring tax technology requirements are understood, prioritized, and effectively integrated into the broader ERP and financial systems architecture (e.g., SAP S/4HANA, Oracle).
- Direct all aspects of electronic tax data management, including data extraction, transformation, validation, and storage, to ensure data integrity and readiness for compliance, audits, and analytics.
- Provide strategic leadership and technical guidance for global e-invoicing and e-reporting initiatives, ensuring compliance with evolving digital tax mandates in various jurisdictions.
- Manage and mentor a team of tax technology professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Lead large-scale project management for all tax technology initiatives, defining project scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation, and ensuring successful delivery.
- Establish and govern policies, procedures, and controls for tax systems and data to maintain SOX compliance and mitigate operational risks.
- Drive the enhancement of tax planning and forecasting capabilities by leveraging data analytics and visualization tools to provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Oversee the company’s response to digital tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, ensuring efficient data retrieval and defense.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends in tax technology, digital tax administration, and AI/ML applications in the tax domain to continuously identify opportunities for innovation.
- Partner with external advisors, vendors, and industry groups to benchmark our capabilities and incorporate best practices into our tax technology strategy.
- Champion change management initiatives within the tax department to ensure successful adoption of new technologies and streamlined processes.
- Manage the budget and vendor relationships for all tax software and technology services, negotiating contracts and ensuring optimal return on investment.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all tax systems, processes, and data flows to support business continuity and training.
- Lead the tax data analytics function to identify trends, model tax impacts of business decisions, and support strategic tax planning.
- Ensure the tax technology stack is scalable and flexible to support business growth, M&A integrations, and organizational changes.
- Collaborate with the corporate provision team to automate and streamline the calculation and reporting of the global income tax provision under ASC 740.
- Design and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the tax technology function and automated processes.
- Provide training and support to the broader tax and finance teams to maximize their effective use of tax technology tools.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Tax Technology Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience with major tax engines and compliance software such as ONESOURCE (Provision, Income Tax), Corptax, Vertex, and/or Avalara.
- ERP Systems Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial modules and data structures within major ERP systems, particularly SAP (S/4HANA preferred) or Oracle.
- Data Analytics & Automation: Proficiency with data analytics and ETL tools (Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau) and experience with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) platforms (UiPath, Automation Anywhere).
- Tax Law & Accounting: Solid foundation in corporate tax principles, including US GAAP tax accounting (ASC 740), federal and state tax compliance, and international tax concepts.
- Project Management: Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional technology implementation projects from conception to completion using methodologies like Agile or Waterfall.
- Database & SQL: Working knowledge of relational databases and the ability to write or review SQL queries for data extraction and validation.
