Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  1. Tax Engine Management: Spearhead the administration, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of the company's indirect tax engine (e.g., Vertex, ONESOURCE, or Avalara) to ensure accurate, real-time tax calculation and compliance.
  2. ERP Integration: Act as the primary tax liaison for ERP system (e.g., SAP S/4HANA, Oracle NetSuite) implementations, upgrades, and enhancements, ensuring proper integration with tax technology platforms.
  3. Electronic Filing and Reporting: Manage the end-to-end process for preparing, reviewing, and electronically filing multi-jurisdictional indirect tax returns (VAT, SUT, GST) and other digital tax reports.
  4. E-Invoicing Compliance: Monitor, interpret, and implement solutions to comply with evolving global e-invoicing and real-time reporting mandates (e.g., SAF-T, SII, CFDI).
  5. Process Automation: Identify opportunities for automation within the tax compliance and reporting lifecycle, utilizing tools like Alteryx, Power Automate, or custom scripts to reduce manual effort and increase accuracy.
  6. Data Reconciliation and Analysis: Perform complex data reconciliations between the ERP, tax engine, and general ledger to ensure data integrity and resolve any tax discrepancies in a timely manner.
  7. System Testing: Design and execute comprehensive test plans for tax system changes, patches, and upgrades to validate the accuracy of tax calculations and reporting outputs before deployment.
  8. Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Serve as the first point of contact for internal stakeholders, providing expert-level support and troubleshooting for all tax-related system issues and inquiries.
  9. Tax Requirement Gathering: Collaborate with business and finance teams to translate complex business transactions and tax law changes into clear, actionable technical requirements for tax systems.
  10. Tax Sensitization of Master Data: Develop and enforce governance standards for customer, vendor, and material master data to ensure it contains the necessary attributes for correct tax determination.
  11. Audit Support: Prepare and provide data analytics, system documentation, and detailed transaction reports to support internal and external tax audits.
  12. Project Management: Lead or participate in cross-functional projects related to tax technology, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.

  16. Indirect Tax Research: Conduct technical research on complex indirect tax issues and document conclusions to support system configurations and compliance positions.
  17. Exemption Certificate Management: Oversee the digital management of customer tax exemption certificates, ensuring the validity and proper application within the sales and tax calculation process.
  18. Custom Tax Logic Development: Assist in designing and implementing custom tax rules and logic within the tax engine to handle unique business scenarios and non-standard transactions.
  19. Month-End Close Process: Play a critical role in the monthly financial close process by managing tax accruals, journal entries, and reconciling tax liability accounts.
  20. Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong working relationships with IT, Supply Chain, Sales, and Legal teams to ensure a holistic approach to tax compliance and system architecture.

  2. ERP Systems Knowledge: Proficiency in major ERP systems, particularly SAP (FI/CO, SD modules) or Oracle (NetSuite, Fusion Financials), and understanding their tax integration points.
