Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum that addresses the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical needs of each child.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, and stimulating learning environment that is clean, orderly, and rich with age-appropriate materials and learning centers.
  • Observe, document, and assess children's development and learning progress using formal and informal tools, such as portfolios, anecdotal records, and developmental checklists.
  • Foster positive and trusting relationships with each child, providing guidance, emotional support, and responsive care to meet their individual needs.
  • Guide children’s behavior in a positive, constructive manner by modeling appropriate social skills, encouraging self-regulation, and using effective conflict-resolution techniques.
  • Plan and lead a balance of activities, including individual and small group experiences, child-initiated play, and teacher-directed lessons.
  • Cultivate strong, collaborative partnerships with parents and guardians through regular, open, and respectful communication, including daily updates, parent-teacher conferences, and newsletters.
  • Ensure the physical well-being of all children by attending to their daily needs, such as feeding, diapering, toileting, and proper hygiene.
  • Promote inclusivity and diversity within the classroom by incorporating culturally relevant materials and activities that reflect the backgrounds of all children and families.
  • Facilitate language and literacy development through storytelling, songs, fingerplays, and creating a print-rich environment.
  • Monitor and supervise children during all activities, including indoor/outdoor play, mealtimes, and nap times, to ensure their absolute safety.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs, learning styles, and developmental levels, including those with special needs.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records, including attendance, emergency contacts, incident reports, and developmental progress reports.
  • Administer basic first aid and medication as required, adhering strictly to center policies and health regulations.
  • Prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor learning environments and materials to support the curriculum and children's exploration.

Secondary Functions

  • Collaborate with a team of fellow educators to plan curriculum, share observations, and ensure a consistent, high-quality program across the center.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, professional development workshops, and training sessions to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.
  • Assist in planning and participating in center-wide events, such as holiday celebrations, family nights, and open houses.
  • Maintain and organize classroom inventory, requesting new equipment and supplies as needed to support program goals.

Educational Background
