Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assist the lead teacher in the successful implementation of daily lesson plans and educational activities designed to engage a diverse student population.
  • Provide targeted one-on-one and small group instruction to reinforce learning concepts and help students master key skills in subjects like reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Support students with diverse learning needs by implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) under the direct guidance of certified special education staff.
  • Actively foster a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel respected, valued, and empowered to participate.
  • Diligently supervise students during non-instructional periods, including lunch, recess, assemblies, and transitions, to ensure their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Prepare, organize, and manage a wide range of instructional materials, including copying and collating worksheets, laminating resources, and setting up learning centers.
  • Facilitate the use of educational technology, assisting students with tablets, interactive whiteboards, and learning applications to enhance the instructional experience.
  • Meticulously monitor, observe, and document student academic progress and behavioral performance, providing valuable data-driven feedback to the lead teacher.
  • Maintain open, consistent, and professional communication with the lead teacher regarding student progress, behavioral observations, and any potential concerns.
  • Reinforce positive behaviors and classroom expectations, skillfully employing approved classroom management strategies to de-escalate conflicts and guide students toward self-regulation.
  • Assist students with personal care and physical needs, which may include toileting, feeding, and ensuring mobility, while always maintaining their dignity and privacy.
  • Engage students by reading aloud in group settings or one-on-one to build foundational literacy skills and cultivate a lifelong love for reading.
  • Help administer and proctor formal and informal assessments, such as tests and quizzes, ensuring a structured and equitable testing environment.
  • Safely escort and supervise students as they move throughout the school, including trips to the library, cafeteria, nurse's office, and specialist classes.
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials as directed by the teacher to effectively accommodate the individual learning styles and abilities of all students.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain confidential and accurate student records, including attendance logs, grade data entry, and documentation of behavioral incidents.
  • Contribute to creating a stimulating and organized physical classroom space by arranging furniture, managing supplies, and creating displays of student work.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, professional development workshops, and parent-teacher conferences as required to support student and school-wide goals.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of support staff, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and school counselors, to provide holistic student support.
  • Chaperone and supervise students during off-campus educational field trips, ensuring safety protocols are followed and learning objectives are met.
  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
  • Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency with classroom technology and educational software (e.g., Google Classroom, Seesaw, Lexia, SMART Board).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or the willingness to become certified.
  • Knowledge of strategies for implementing Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and accommodations.
  • Competency in data collection techniques for academic and behavioral progress monitoring.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology tools used to support students with physical or learning disabilities.
  • Basic proficiency with office productivity software (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace) for clerical and communication tasks.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
