Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Meticulously read, interpret, and work from complex electrical schematics, blueprints, wire-run lists, and detailed assembly instructions to build products to exact specifications.
- Perform intricate point-to-point wiring, routing, and connection of wires and cables to various components, such as terminals, connectors, and circuit boards.
- Mount, position, and install a wide range of electrical components, including circuit breakers, transformers, relays, switches, and PLCs, into control panels, chassis, and enclosures.
- Execute precision soldering on printed circuit boards (PCBs) and terminal connections, ensuring adherence to IPC or equivalent quality standards.
- Crimp, strip, and terminate wires and cables using a variety of hand tools and automated equipment, ensuring secure and reliable connections.
- Perform in-process quality checks and self-inspections to identify and correct any assembly errors, wiring mistakes, or defective components early in the process.
- Utilize multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialized test equipment to perform continuity checks, voltage tests, and functional tests on completed assemblies to verify their performance.
- Skillfully use a broad range of hand tools, including wire strippers, crimpers, soldering irons, and screwdrivers, as well as power tools like drills and grinders.
- Assemble and install custom cable harnesses and wire looms, ensuring proper bundling, routing, and protection against abrasion and environmental factors.
- Follow all established safety protocols and procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) prevention practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace by adhering to 5S principles and other lean manufacturing methodologies.
- Accurately document assembly processes, record test results, and complete production travelers or work order paperwork for traceability and quality assurance.
- Collaborate directly with engineers and technicians to troubleshoot and resolve assembly issues, providing valuable feedback for design improvements (Design for Manufacturability).
- Perform basic rework and repair on non-conforming assemblies or returned units as directed by the quality or engineering departments.
- Manage and label wires and components accurately to ensure proper identification and prevent errors during assembly and future maintenance.
- Operate machinery for tasks such as wire cutting, stripping, and labeling, ensuring the equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss production schedules, challenges, and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Prepare and package finished assemblies for shipment or transfer to the next stage of production, ensuring they are protected from damage.
- Calibrate and set up fixtures, tools, and equipment required for the assembly process, ensuring they are functioning correctly.
- Cross-train on different product lines and assembly processes to increase operational flexibility and personal skill development.
