Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Construct, install, and maintain overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems, including poles, towers, conductors, and associated hardware.
- Perform energized (hot-line) work on high-voltage systems using appropriate tools, techniques, and personal protective equipment (PPE) like rubber gloving and hot-sticking.
- Operate specialized heavy equipment including bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes, and trenchers for line construction and maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose faults, interruptions, and outages in power lines and equipment to rapidly and safely restore electrical service.
- Install, replace, and maintain critical electrical equipment such as transformers, switches, capacitors, voltage regulators, and reclosers.
- Perform climbing of wood poles and steel structures to access work areas and execute repair or installation tasks.
- String, splice, sag, and terminate conductors of various sizes and types, ensuring proper tension and clearance requirements are met.
- Respond to emergency calls and system outages 24/7, working in adverse weather conditions and challenging environments to restore power.
- Read and interpret complex electrical diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and staking sheets to ensure accurate construction and repairs.
- Test circuits, transformers, and other equipment for electrical integrity, voltage, and functionality using various diagnostic tools.
- Set and anchor poles and towers, ensuring stability and compliance with engineering specifications and ground conditions.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on the electrical grid to identify potential hazards and prevent future outages.
- Work with underground residential distribution (URD) systems, including pulling cable, terminating elbows, and operating pad-mounted equipment.
Secondary Functions
- Ensure all work performed adheres strictly to National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), OSHA, and company-specific safety standards and procedures.
- Document work completed by filling out work orders, daily logs, and as-built drawings accurately and in a timely manner.
- Mentor and provide on-the-job training and guidance to apprentice line technicians and ground personnel.
- Maintain accountability for assigned tools, equipment, and vehicle stock, conducting regular inspections and reporting any deficiencies.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, control center operators, and fellow crew members to coordinate work and ensure operational safety.
- Participate actively in daily job briefings and safety meetings to review work plans and identify potential job site hazards.
- Perform vegetation management and tree trimming in proximity to energized lines to maintain safe clearances as needed.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Proficiency in high-voltage electrical systems (Distribution & Transmission).
- Expertise in pole climbing techniques and working safely at significant heights.
- Competent operation of bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other specialized heavy equipment.

- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A.

Educational Background
Minimum Education:

- Successful completion of a certified Electrical Lineworker Apprenticeship program or equivalent military/work experience.
Preferred Education:
- Associate's Degree in Electrical Power Technology or a related technical field.

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range:
- 4+ years of experience as a qualified Journeyman Line Technician in an electric utility environment.
Preferred:
- Experience with both overhead and underground (URD) systems.
- Documented experience working on energized circuits and systems.
- Extensive experience in storm restoration and emergency response.
- Experience working with distribution voltages up to 34.5kV.
