Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Manage the full lifecycle of electrical engineering projects, from initial scope development, feasibility analysis, and cost estimation through to detailed design, procurement, construction, and final commissioning.
- Develop and meticulously review comprehensive electrical system designs, including power distribution, single-line diagrams, schematics, lighting, and fire alarm systems, ensuring strict adherence to project specifications and industry standards.
- Prepare detailed project execution plans, outlining schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies to ensure project delivery on time and within financial constraints.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies, effectively communicating project status, resolving complex technical inquiries, and managing stakeholder expectations.
- Conduct thorough power system studies, such as load flow, short circuit analysis, and arc flash assessments, utilizing software like ETAP or SKM to guarantee system safety and reliability.
- Oversee the procurement process for all electrical equipment and materials, including creating technical specifications, evaluating vendor bids, and managing supplier relationships and delivery schedules.
- Lead and coordinate project teams, including designers, drafters, and field personnel, providing clear direction, technical guidance, and mentorship to foster a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Perform on-site inspections and quality control checks during the construction and installation phases to verify compliance with design drawings, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Develop and manage project budgets, track expenditures, analyze variances, and prepare regular financial reports for senior management, ensuring project profitability.
- Create and maintain all project-related documentation, including engineering calculations, technical reports, change orders, RFIs (Requests for Information), and as-built drawings.
- Ensure all project activities and designs comply with national and local codes and standards, such as the National Electrical Code (NEC), NEMA, ANSI, and IEEE.
- Lead project close-out procedures, which includes finalizing all documentation, completing punch lists, and conducting post-project reviews to identify lessons learned for future initiatives.
- Evaluate and select appropriate electrical systems and components, considering factors like cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency, lifecycle cost, and technological advancements.
- Prepare detailed bid packages and contract documents for construction and installation services, and participate in the evaluation and selection of electrical contractors.
- Manage and resolve any on-site construction issues, conflicts, or design discrepancies in a timely and efficient manner to minimize project delays and cost overruns.
- Champion and enforce rigorous safety standards and procedures on all project sites, conducting safety audits and ensuring a culture of safety-first among all team members and contractors.
- Coordinate closely with other engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Civil, Structural) to ensure a fully integrated and cohesive overall project design and execution.
- Develop commissioning and startup plans for electrical systems, and oversee the testing process to ensure all systems function according to design specifications before handover.
- Interface with utility companies for service coordination, applications, and to ensure compliance with their specific requirements for grid interconnection and power supply.
- Prepare and deliver compelling technical presentations and progress reports to diverse audiences, including executive leadership, clients, and project teams.
