Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Read, interpret, and work from complex blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to determine the precise layout and sequence of assembly for all elevator systems.
- Perform the complete mechanical assembly of elevator cars, including frames, walls, ceilings, doors, and flooring, ensuring all components are aligned and secured to specification.
- Install and align guide rails, brackets, and other structural supports within the hoistway, using plumb lines, lasers, and other precision measurement tools.
- Assemble and install counterweights, hoisting machinery, motors, and drive units, ensuring proper balance, tension, and operational efficiency.
- Execute the rigging and hoisting of heavy components and equipment safely and efficiently, adhering to all load-bearing limits and safety protocols.
- Route and connect electrical wiring for control panels, lighting, communication systems, and safety circuits according to detailed electrical diagrams.
- Install and adjust elevator doors, door operators, and associated locking mechanisms to ensure smooth, safe, and reliable operation.
- Fit and mount hydraulic pistons, pumps, and fluid lines for hydraulic elevator systems, ensuring a leak-free and pressure-tight installation.
- Conduct pre-power-on inspections and continuity checks to verify correct wiring and assembly before system activation.
- Assist senior technicians and inspectors during the testing, adjustment, and commissioning phases, making necessary modifications to meet performance criteria.
- Utilize a wide array of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment such as welders, grinders, and torque wrenches to complete assembly tasks.
- Perform basic welding, cutting, and metal fabrication tasks as required to fit components or create custom brackets and supports.
- Strictly adhere to all company, federal (OSHA), and local safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues that arise during the assembly process, proposing and implementing effective solutions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, both in the workshop and on the construction site, to prevent accidents and promote efficiency.
- Install all safety-related components, including governors, safeties, buffers, and emergency braking systems, with an unwavering focus on precision.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction trades (electricians, carpenters, etc.) on-site to coordinate workflow and avoid project delays.
- Perform quality control checks at various stages of the assembly process to ensure all work meets or exceeds engineering standards and quality benchmarks.
- Handle and store materials and components appropriately to prevent damage, ensuring they are readily available for the assembly sequence.

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range: 2-5+ years of direct experience in elevator/escalator assembly and installation or a closely related heavy machinery assembly role.
Preferred: Experience working within union guidelines and/or on specific OEM systems (e.g., Otis, KONE, Schindler, Thyssenkrupp). A valid Elevator Mechanic's License is highly desirable where required.
