Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Provide comprehensive four-handed chairside assistance to the endodontist during all diagnostic and treatment procedures, including root canal therapy, retreatment, and apicoectomy.
- Anticipate the sequence of procedures and the endodontist's needs for instruments, materials, and medications throughout every stage of treatment.
- Expertly capture and process high-quality diagnostic images, including digital periapical radiographs (X-rays) and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scans.
- Skillfully operate and maintain advanced endodontic equipment, such as surgical operating microscopes, ultrasonic units, and electronic apex locators.
- Meticulously set up and break down clinical operatories, ensuring all necessary endodontic instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterile and properly arranged.
- Perform rigorous sterilization, disinfection, and maintenance of all dental instruments and equipment in strict accordance with OSHA, CDC, and ADA guidelines.
- Welcome patients, escort them to the treatment area, and prepare them for their procedure, ensuring their comfort and helping to alleviate dental anxiety.
- Thoroughly review and update patient medical histories, carefully documenting allergies, current medications, and any contraindications for treatment.
- Clearly explain treatment procedures, answer patient questions with empathy, and provide detailed pre-operative and post-operative care instructions.
- Accurately and contemporaneously document all treatment details, procedural notes, and vital signs in the patient's electronic health record (EHR).
- Prepare and pass endodontic-specific materials such as sealers, irrigation solutions, and intracanal medicaments.
Secondary Functions
- Manage and maintain an organized inventory of all dental and endodontic-specific supplies, tracking stock levels and placing orders to prevent shortages.
- Assist the front office team with patient management and scheduling, including confirming appointments and coordinating follow-up visits to monitor healing.
- Handle incoming patient calls regarding post-operative concerns, providing guidance within the scope of practice and escalating to the endodontist as needed.
- Prepare and present treatment plans to patients, providing a basic explanation of procedures and associated costs.
- Ensure all necessary patient consent forms and legal documentation are completed accurately and signed prior to initiating any treatment.
- Act as a key liaison between the endodontist and the patient's referring general dentist, facilitating the secure transfer of records, images, and treatment reports.
- Perform basic laboratory duties as required, such as pouring and trimming diagnostic models.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional clinical environment at all times, upholding the highest standards of infection control and patient safety.
- Participate in team meetings, huddles, and continuing education courses to stay current with advancements in endodontic techniques and technologies.
- Take and record patient vital signs, such as blood pressure and pulse, particularly for patients undergoing sedation or with complex medical histories.

Educational Background
Minimum Education:

- Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) credential.
