Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct comprehensive on-site energy audits (ASHRAE Level I, II, and III) for commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities to identify energy conservation measures (ECMs).
- Analyze utility data, system-level data, and building operational profiles to benchmark energy performance and establish baselines for savings calculations.
- Develop and quantify complex energy conservation measures, including calculations for energy savings, cost savings, implementation costs, and financial metrics like ROI and simple payback.
- Create detailed, investment-grade technical reports and presentations that clearly communicate audit findings, recommended ECMs, and business cases to clients and stakeholders.
- Spearhead the implementation of energy efficiency projects, coordinating with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure successful execution on time and within budget.
- Perform detailed engineering analysis and design for retrofits of HVAC, lighting, building envelope, and control systems.
- Utilize and interpret data from Building Automation Systems (BAS) and energy management systems to optimize building operations and identify low-cost/no-cost efficiency opportunities.
- Develop and implement Measurement and Verification (M&V) plans in accordance with industry standards (e.g., IPMVP) to accurately track and report project savings.
- Stay abreast of the latest energy-efficient technologies, industry trends, building codes (e.g., ASHRAE 90.1, IECC), and government/utility incentive programs.
- Manage relationships with utility providers to secure rebates, incentives, and grants for energy efficiency projects on behalf of clients.
- Review mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design documents and construction submittals to ensure energy efficiency goals are incorporated and met.
- Provide expert technical assistance and training to facility management teams on energy management best practices and the operation of new, efficient systems.
- Create and run sophisticated building energy simulations using software such as eQUEST, EnergyPlus, TRACE 3D Plus, or HAP to predict energy savings from proposed retrofits.
- Support retro-commissioning (RCx) and existing building commissioning (EBCx) efforts to identify and correct operational inefficiencies in existing buildings.
- Prepare scopes of work, technical specifications, and bid documents for the procurement of energy efficiency project services and equipment.
- Assess the feasibility of integrating renewable energy solutions, such as solar PV and geothermal, into a facility's overall energy strategy.
- Manage multiple, concurrent projects, maintaining detailed project documentation and providing regular status updates to management and clients.
- Collaborate with business development teams by providing technical expertise for proposals, client meetings, and marketing efforts.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Energy Auditing: Deep expertise in performing ASHRAE Level I, II, and III energy audits for a diverse range of building types.
- Energy Modeling Software: Proficiency with at least one major energy modeling platform (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPlus, TRACE 700/3D Plus, HAP).
- HVAC Systems: Strong understanding of the design, operation, and optimization of commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, VAV systems, and heat pumps.
