As our Engine Installer, you are the cornerstone of our major repair operations. Your day will be centered around the precise and efficient replacement of automotive engines. You'll be entrusted with the entire process, from the initial diagnosis and safe removal of the faulty engine to the meticulous installation and calibration of a new or remanufactured unit. You will work with a range of specialized tools and diagnostic software to ensure every installation meets or exceeds OEM specifications and our own high standards of quality. Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Perform the complete removal of existing engines from a variety of passenger and light-duty vehicles, following established safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
Meticulously prepare the engine bay for new installation, including cleaning surfaces, inspecting engine mounts, and checking related components for wear or damage.
Install new, used, or remanufactured engine assemblies, ensuring proper alignment and secure mounting to the vehicle's chassis and transmission.
Carefully transfer all necessary components from the old engine to the new one, such as manifolds, sensors, wiring harnesses, and accessories, ensuring compatibility and proper function.
Expertly connect all mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems, including fuel lines, coolant hoses, vacuum lines, exhaust systems, and electrical connectors.
Torque all fasteners to precise manufacturer specifications using calibrated torque wrenches to prevent leaks, vibrations, and component failure.
Refill all necessary fluids to the correct levels, including engine oil, coolant, and power steering fluid, using OEM-specified products.
Perform comprehensive diagnostic scans using tools like OBD-II scanners both before and after installation to identify and clear fault codes and verify system communication.
Execute initial start-up procedures, carefully monitoring engine vitals, checking for leaks, and listening for any abnormal noises or performance issues.
Conduct thorough road tests on vehicles post-installation to verify proper engine performance, transmission shifting, and overall vehicle drivability under various conditions.
Perform critical post-installation adjustments, such as bleeding the cooling system, verifying ignition timing, and calibrating electronic throttle bodies or other sensors.
Diagnose and troubleshoot complex no-start, rough running, or performance-related issues that may arise immediately following an engine installation.
Disassemble and inspect core engines being returned for warranty or remanufacturing, documenting any visible failures or damage.
Ensure all emissions control systems are correctly re-installed and functioning properly to comply with local and federal regulations.
Utilize specialized equipment such as engine hoists, vehicle lifts, and transmission jacks safely and effectively throughout the entire installation process.

Secondary Functions

Maintain detailed and accurate records of all work performed, including parts used and time spent, on digital or paper work orders for customer billing and service history.
Communicate effectively with Service Advisors regarding the status of repairs, any unforeseen complications, or additional necessary parts and labor.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all shop safety procedures and environmental regulations.
Assist other technicians with complex diagnostic or repair tasks when engine-related expertise is required.
Participate in ongoing technical training and certification programs to stay current with the latest engine technologies, tools, and repair procedures.
Mentor and provide guidance to apprentice technicians, sharing knowledge of best practices for engine removal and replacement.
Perform final quality control inspections on the vehicle to ensure it is clean and ready for customer delivery after a major engine repair.
Support parts department in identifying correct components and assemblies for engine replacement jobs.

Required Skills & Competencies

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 3-7 years of professional experience as an automotive technician, with a significant portion focused on major engine repair or replacement.

Preferred: Demonstrable experience in a high-volume shop or dealership setting performing engine swaps. Experience with performance, remanufactured, or crate engines. ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications, particularly A1 (Engine Repair), are highly desirable.
