Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Define and execute the long-term technical vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with the company's overall business goals and market direction.
  • Lead, mentor, and scale a world-class, globally distributed engineering organization by attracting, retaining, and developing top-tier talent.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, high performance, and accountability, where engineers are empowered to do their best work.
  • Drive the architectural vision for our platforms, ensuring the development of robust, scalable, and secure systems that can support future growth.
  • Oversee the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC), from ideation and planning to deployment and maintenance, implementing best practices and agile methodologies.
  • Partner closely with executive leadership (CEO, CPO, CRO) to translate business requirements into technical solutions and contribute to the company's strategic planning process.
  • Manage the engineering budget, including headcount planning, resource allocation, and technology investments, to maximize ROI and operational efficiency.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and engineering metrics (e.g., deployment frequency, lead time for changes, MTTR) to drive continuous improvement.
  • Champion technical excellence and quality, establishing rigorous standards for code quality, testing, and release management processes.
  • Act as the primary technical spokesperson for the company, effectively communicating technology strategy to investors, board members, partners, and customers.
  • Evaluate and select new technologies, tools, and platforms to enhance product capabilities and improve developer productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant security standards, data privacy regulations (like GDPR and CCPA), and industry-specific requirements.
  • Lead the organization through periods of rapid growth and technological transformation, managing change effectively and maintaining team morale.
  • Direct the management of technical debt, creating a strategic approach to refactoring and modernization that balances new feature development.
  • Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with Product, Design, Sales, and Marketing to ensure a cohesive and unified product development effort.
  • Oversee the company's infrastructure, reliability engineering (SRE), and DevOps practices to guarantee high availability and performance of all systems.
  • Drive research and development (R&D) initiatives, exploring emerging technologies like AI/ML to create a competitive advantage.
  • Mediate technical debates and make critical architectural decisions that have a long-term impact on the business.
  • Implement and refine career ladders and professional development programs for the engineering team to support individual growth.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, contractors, and technology partners to supplement internal capabilities and accelerate development.
  • Develop and oversee the disaster recovery and business continuity plans for all critical technology systems.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • Proven experience scaling an engineering organization from 50 to 200+ engineers in a high-growth SaaS environment. Experience leading teams through a major architectural transition (e.g., monolith to microservices) or a successful exit (IPO/acquisition) is highly desirable.
