Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Expertly set up, calibrate, and operate multiple laser and/or rotary engraving machines to fulfill daily production schedules and complex custom orders.
- Interpret detailed work orders, technical drawings, and digital proofs to ensure all customer requirements for design, placement, and material are met with precision.
- Prepare and manipulate digital design files using graphic software such as CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, or proprietary CAD/CAM programs for optimal engraving output.
- Select and load appropriate materials, such as metal, plastic, wood, glass, or acrylic, into the engraving machine, ensuring proper alignment and security.
- Meticulously monitor machine operations to detect any malfunctions or deviations from specifications, making real-time adjustments to speed, power, and focus as needed.
- Conduct rigorous in-process and final quality control inspections on all engraved items to guarantee they meet strict standards for clarity, accuracy, and finish.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on engraving equipment, including cleaning lenses, lubricating components, and replacing consumable parts to ensure peak performance and longevity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic mechanical or software issues with the machinery to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
- Maintain an accurate and detailed log of production activities, including materials used, machine settings, and quantities produced for inventory and tracking purposes.
- Manage and organize inventory of raw materials and engraving supplies, notifying the supervisor when stock levels are low to prevent production delays.
- Ensure the final engraved products are cleaned, assembled if necessary, and carefully packaged according to company standards for safe shipment or pickup.
- Uphold a safe and organized work environment by consistently following all company safety protocols and housekeeping procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with the design team to provide feedback on file compatibility and suggest modifications that enhance engravability and final product quality.
- Adjust engraving techniques and machine parameters based on the specific properties of different materials to achieve the best possible results.
- Efficiently manage a queue of multiple projects with varying deadlines, prioritizing tasks to maximize throughput without sacrificing quality.
- Read and interpret measurements using precision tools like calipers, micrometers, and rulers to verify product dimensions.
- Develop a deep understanding of the capabilities and limitations of each engraving machine to optimize its use for specific jobs.
- Assist in training new operators on machine functions, safety procedures, and quality standards.
- Continuously identify and suggest opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall product quality.
