Primary Functions

  • Design, implement, and manage comprehensive laboratory, greenhouse, and field-based research trials to evaluate the efficacy and impact of novel pest management technologies and strategies.
  • Lead the collection, preservation, and precise identification of insect specimens using advanced morphological taxonomic keys, dichotomous keys, and modern molecular techniques.
  • Develop and maintain healthy, viable insect colonies for continuous research, including overseeing rearing protocols, diet formulation, and environmental controls.
  • Conduct sophisticated bioassays to determine insect susceptibility and resistance levels to various chemical, biological, and physical control agents.
  • Analyze complex experimental data using advanced statistical software (such as R, SAS, or JMP) and interpret the results to generate actionable insights and scientifically sound conclusions.
  • Author, co-author, and review scientific manuscripts for submission to and publication in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the broader scientific community.
  • Prepare and present compelling research findings, data summaries, and project updates at regional, national, and international scientific conferences and industry meetings.
  • Develop and write competitive grant proposals and research funding applications to secure external financial support from government agencies, foundations, and industry partners.
  • Provide expert technical consultation and support to internal stakeholders, agricultural producers, pest control operators, and public agencies on matters of insect identification and pest management.
  • Monitor and forecast insect population dynamics and the spread of vector-borne diseases to assess potential risks to crop production, animal health, and public welfare.
  • Formulate, implement, and refine Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs tailored for diverse ecosystems, including agricultural, urban, and natural environments.
  • Perform detailed molecular analyses, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, and genetic sequencing, to study insect genetics, phylogenetics, and mechanisms of insecticide resistance.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior technical staff, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers in best practices for experimental design, laboratory procedures, and data analysis.
  • Maintain meticulous, accurate, and organized records of all experimental protocols, raw data, and research outcomes in laboratory notebooks and digital databases.
  • Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature, emerging technologies, and methodological advancements within the fields of entomology, ecology, and molecular biology.
