Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform comprehensive, multi-step cleaning and disinfection of patient rooms, nursing stations, examination areas, and public spaces using approved chemicals and following established infection control protocols.
- Execute terminal cleaning procedures in patient rooms upon discharge, transfer, or in operating suites, ensuring complete environmental disinfection and readiness for the next occupant.
- Diligently follow all safety protocols for handling, mixing, and storing cleaning chemicals, and demonstrate a clear understanding of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Operate and maintain heavy-duty cleaning and floor care equipment, including automatic floor scrubbers, high-speed buffers, carpet extractors, and commercial vacuums.
- Collect, transport, and properly dispose of various waste streams, including general trash, confidential documents, recyclables, and regulated medical/biohazardous waste, adhering to strict handling procedures.
- Meticulously dust, damp-wipe, and sanitize all surfaces, including furniture, fixtures, counters, ledges, vents, and high-touch points like doorknobs, handrails, and elevator buttons.
- Service and deep-clean restrooms, ensuring all fixtures are sanitized and fully stocked with supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue.
- Respond with urgency to service calls for emergency cleanups, including spills of bodily fluids and other potentially hazardous materials, utilizing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Strip, wax, and refinish hard-surface floors and perform deep carpet cleaning and extraction as part of a periodic maintenance schedule.
- Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, toiletries, and paper products in assigned janitorial closets, reporting shortages to the supervisor for timely reordering.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with patients, visitors, and clinical staff, respecting patient privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA) at all times.
- Conduct daily inspections of assigned areas, promptly reporting any maintenance issues, safety hazards, pest sightings, or damaged equipment to the appropriate department via the work order system.
- Follow specialized isolation and decontamination procedures for rooms of patients with contagious diseases, donning and doffing specified PPE according to established guidelines.
- Clean interior and exterior glass surfaces, including windows and partitions, to maintain a professional and pristine facility appearance.
- Ensure all cleaning equipment is thoroughly cleaned, inspected for damage, and stored securely at the end of each shift.
- Actively participate in departmental meetings and mandatory training sessions on topics such as infection prevention, safety procedures, and new cleaning technologies.
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment as necessary to perform cleaning duties and to assist with room setups for meetings or special events.
- Maintain the cleanliness of facility entrances, lobbies, and exterior walkways immediately adjacent to buildings, removing debris and ensuring a welcoming first impression.
- Prepare patient rooms for new admissions by making beds with fresh linens and ensuring the entire environment is sanitized and presentable.
- Document completed cleaning assignments and other required tasks accurately on checklists or in electronic logs to ensure compliance and accountability.

- Assist with linen distribution and collection, delivering clean linens to user areas and removing soiled linens for transport to laundry services.
- Provide support for special projects or facility-wide initiatives, including post-construction clean-up and seasonal deep cleaning tasks.
- Cross-train in adjacent support service roles to provide operational flexibility and coverage during staff absences.
- Act as a safety champion, proactively identifying and reporting potential hazards, blocked fire exits, or suspicious activity to a supervisor or security.

Educational Background
