Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Analyze and interpret complex environmental datasets related to air quality, water quality, soil contamination, biodiversity, and waste management to identify trends and anomalies.
- Develop and maintain robust data pipelines for ingesting, cleaning, transforming, and storing environmental data from a wide array of sources, including field surveys, lab results, IoT sensors, and public databases.
- Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and compelling data visualizations using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Python libraries (e.g., Plotly, Seaborn) to communicate key findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Perform advanced spatial analysis using GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS) to model environmental processes, map risk zones, and evaluate the geographic impact of projects.
- Manage large-scale environmental databases (SQL and NoSQL), ensuring data integrity, accuracy, security, and accessibility for various internal and external users.
- Apply statistical modeling, time-series analysis, and machine learning techniques to forecast environmental conditions, predict impacts, and optimize monitoring strategies.
- Collaborate closely with environmental scientists, engineers, and policy experts to provide data-driven insights that inform project planning, environmental impact assessments (EIA), and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct rigorous quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) checks on incoming and processed data to ensure it meets established standards and is fit for analysis.
- Automate routine data collection, processing, and reporting tasks using scripting languages like Python or R to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Contribute directly to the development of corporate sustainability reports and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosures by providing accurate quantitative analysis.
- Develop and maintain greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories in accordance with established frameworks like the GHG Protocol, and support decarbonization initiatives.
- Support the execution of Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) by collecting, processing, and analyzing data on material flows, energy usage, and environmental releases.
- Translate complex scientific findings and regulatory requirements into clear data analysis plans, technical specifications, and actionable business recommendations.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, metadata standards, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for data management and analysis workflows.
- Perform complex queries and data extractions from relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server) to support specific analytical projects.
- Process and analyze remote sensing data (e.g., from Landsat, Sentinel, or drone imagery) to monitor land use change, vegetation health, water bodies, and other environmental indicators over time.
- Present analytical findings, methodologies, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership, clients, and regulatory agencies in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
- Assist in the strategic design and implementation of environmental monitoring programs, including advising on sensor placement, sampling frequency, and data collection protocols.
- Troubleshoot data-related issues by diagnosing root causes and working with IT and engineering teams to implement robust, long-term solutions.
- Evaluate, test, and recommend new software, tools, and innovative methodologies to continuously enhance the organization's environmental data analysis capabilities.
