Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop and execute innovative design concepts for a wide range of physical environments, including retail flagships, corporate interiors, pop-up shops, and large-scale event installations.
  • Translate abstract brand strategies, marketing objectives, and narrative themes into fully realized, three-dimensional spatial experiences.
  • Create comprehensive and detailed 3D models, photo-realistic renderings, and virtual walkthroughs to visualize and communicate design intent to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Produce precise and thorough design documentation, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and detailed drawings for construction, fabrication, and installation.
  • Lead the design and integration of environmental graphic design (EGD) packages, including wayfinding systems, large-format graphics, signage, and digital displays.
  • Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including architects, industrial designers, graphic designers, and brand strategists, to ensure a cohesive final product.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, from initial briefing through to final execution, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Research, source, and specify materials, finishes, furniture, fixtures, and lighting that align with the project's aesthetic, functional requirements, and budget.
  • Develop and deliver compelling design presentations and proposals that effectively articulate the design vision, rationale, and user journey to clients and executive teams.
  • Conduct on-site surveys and assessments to gather critical information about existing conditions, dimensions, and technical constraints.
  • Act as the primary design liaison with external partners, including fabrication vendors, general contractors, and installers, providing clear direction and reviewing shop drawings.
  • Design custom fixtures, furniture, and display elements that are unique to the brand and enhance the overall environmental experience.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant building codes, accessibility standards (such as ADA), and safety regulations.
  • Stay at the forefront of industry trends, emerging technologies, sustainable materials, and innovative fabrication techniques to continually push creative boundaries.
  • Develop detailed user journey maps and spatial flow diagrams to optimize the customer or employee experience within the designed environment.
  • Oversee the installation process on-site, problem-solving in real-time and ensuring the final build-out is a faithful execution of the design intent.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive design intent documents that clearly communicate all aspects of the project for seamless hand-off to production teams.
  • Integrate interactive and digital media elements into physical spaces to create dynamic, engaging, and modern user experiences.
  • Manage project budgets by providing cost estimates for design elements, tracking expenses, and proposing value engineering solutions where necessary.
  • Build and maintain a curated library of materials, finishes, and vendor resources to streamline the design process.
  • Participate in brainstorming and ideation sessions, contributing a unique spatial design perspective to broader creative campaigns.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • 3D Modeling & Rendering: Expert proficiency in SketchUp, Rhino, and/or 3ds Max, coupled with rendering engines like V-Ray, Enscape, or Corona to produce photorealistic visuals.
  • 2D CAD Drafting: Advanced skills in AutoCAD or Revit for producing precise technical drawing sets, including plans, elevations, and construction details.
  • Adobe Creative Suite: Mastery of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign for creating environmental graphics, presentation decks, and material boards.
  • Material & Fabrication Knowledge: Deep understanding of common and innovative materials, finishes, construction methods, and fabrication processes.
  • Hand Sketching: Strong ability to quickly communicate ideas and concepts through freehand sketching and spatial diagrams.
