Primary Functions
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of all company-owned and rented equipment, from strategic procurement and deployment to preventative maintenance, critical repair, and eventual disposal.
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to maximize equipment uptime, ensure operational reliability, and enhance workplace safety.
- Manage a multi-million dollar equipment budget, including capital expenditure (CAPEX) planning for new acquisitions and operational expense (OPEX) tracking for maintenance, fuel, and repairs.
- Lead sourcing, negotiation, and procurement processes for new equipment, parts, and third-party service agreements to ensure cost-effectiveness, quality, and favorable terms.
- Maintain a meticulous and accurate inventory of all equipment, attachments, and high-value tools using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
- Coordinate the complex logistics of mobilizing and demobilizing heavy equipment to and from various job sites, ensuring timely delivery and full compliance with all transport regulations.
- Conduct regular audits and physical inspections of the equipment fleet to assess condition, identify repair needs, and ensure compliance with safety (OSHA), environmental (EPA), and transportation (DOT) standards.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of mechanics, technicians, and equipment coordinators, setting clear performance goals and fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
- Generate and analyze detailed reports on key performance indicators such as equipment utilization, maintenance costs, fuel consumption, and overall fleet performance to identify trends and drive efficiency improvements.
- Ensure all equipment operations and maintenance activities strictly adhere to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop and manage strategic relationships with equipment manufacturers, dealerships, and rental companies to secure premium support, training, and favorable commercial terms.
- Lead investigations and create detailed reports on all equipment-related accidents or significant failures, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Evaluate and champion new technologies, including telematics, GPS tracking, and predictive maintenance software, to enhance fleet management capabilities and enable data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Operations leadership to accurately forecast equipment needs and develop strategic allocation plans that support project timelines and budgets.
- Manage the entire warranty claims process for all eligible equipment repairs, diligently tracking claims from submission to resolution to maximize cost recovery for the company.
- Direct the parts inventory management system, ensuring critical spare parts are readily available to minimize downtime while controlling carrying costs and preventing obsolescence.
