Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute comprehensive preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance routines on a diverse range of automated and semi-automated production equipment to ensure maximum uptime and operational efficiency.
  • Systematically troubleshoot complex electromechanical, robotic, pneumatic, and hydraulic system failures down to the component level using schematics, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Perform intricate repairs, overhauls, and component replacements on critical machinery, ensuring all work meets OEM specifications and stringent quality standards.
  • Calibrate and tune equipment, sensors, and control systems to maintain precise operational parameters and product quality.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdown calls from production, efficiently diagnosing issues under pressure to minimize costly downtime.
  • Diligently document all maintenance, repair, and service activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring accurate records for compliance, tracking, and analysis.
  • Read, interpret, and work from complex technical documentation, including electrical schematics, mechanical blueprints, and OEM service manuals.
  • Interface with and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and other automation control systems to resolve logic and communication issues.
  • Support the installation, commissioning, and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) of new manufacturing equipment, working alongside engineering teams.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring equipment failures and collaborate with engineers to develop and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Monitor equipment performance metrics and analyze data to identify trends, predict potential failures, and recommend proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Manage and maintain a stock of critical spare parts, performing inventory counts and initiating procurement requests to prevent stockouts.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, fostering a culture of safety.
  • Utilize specialized diagnostic software to interface with equipment control systems for advanced troubleshooting and parameter adjustments.
  • Perform precision mechanical alignments on equipment components to ensure they operate within tight tolerances.
  • Assist in developing and refining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for maintenance tasks.
  • Operate and maintain test equipment, including vacuum leak detectors, thermal imagers, and vibration analyzers.
  • Collaborate with process and manufacturing engineers to optimize equipment settings and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Provide clear and concise pass-downs of equipment status, ongoing issues, and completed work to technicians on subsequent shifts.
  • Participate in continuous improvement (Kaizen) events focused on enhancing equipment reliability, safety, and maintainability.

  • Assist engineering teams with the execution of equipment-related projects, including upgrades, retrofits, and process improvements.
  • Maintain a critical spare parts inventory by tracking usage, identifying needs, and collaborating with the procurement team to order replacements.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to machine operators on proper equipment handling, basic troubleshooting, and autonomous maintenance tasks.
  • Contribute to the development of the preventative maintenance program by providing feedback and suggesting improvements to task lists and frequencies.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Electromechanical Troubleshooting: Advanced proficiency in diagnosing and repairing integrated electrical and mechanical systems.
  • PLC & HMI Interfacing: Strong hands-on experience with troubleshooting and making minor adjustments to PLC-controlled systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron).
  • Schematic & Blueprint Reading: The ability to read, interpret, and apply information from complex electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Pneumatics & Hydraulics: In-depth knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting valves, cylinders, pumps, and control circuits.
  • CMMS Software: Familiarity with using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, Fiix) for work order management and documentation.
  • Diagnostic Tool Proficiency: Expertise in using a variety of precision diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, calipers, micrometers, and alignment tools.
  • Robotics Systems: Working knowledge of industrial robots (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB), including teaching points and recovering from faults.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies like 5-Whys or Fishbone Diagrams to identify and eliminate sources of failure.
  • Vacuum Technology: Understanding of vacuum systems, including pumps, gauges, and leak detection methods (highly relevant in semiconductor/pharma).
  • AC/DC Motors & Drives: Skill in troubleshooting and replacing motors, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and servo systems.
  • Safety Protocols (LOTO): Certified or demonstrable expertise in Lockout/Tagout procedures and general industrial safety practices.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED, coupled with a technical certification or military technical training (e.g., Electronics Technician, Aviation Mechanic).

Preferred Education:

  • Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in a relevant technical field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 3-7 years of hands-on experience as an Equipment Technician, Maintenance Technician, or Field Service Engineer in a relevant industrial setting.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical (GMP), or similarly regulated, high-tech environment is strongly preferred. Experience with cleanroom protocols is a significant plus.
