Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Proactively welcome guests upon arrival, providing a positive and friendly first impression while clearly communicating venue policies and event information.
  • Diligently verify tickets, wristbands, passes, and other credentials to control access points and prevent unauthorized entry into the event or restricted areas.
  • Monitor crowd behavior to identify potential safety risks, signs of distress, or disturbances, and report any concerns to supervisors in a timely manner.
  • Provide accurate directions and information to attendees regarding seating, amenities like restrooms and concessions, and emergency exit locations.
  • Actively patrol assigned sections of the venue before, during, and after the event to maintain a visible presence and ensure guest safety.
  • Manage and direct guest queues efficiently and politely to prevent congestion at entrances, concessions, and other high-traffic areas.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to guest inquiries, complaints, or issues, striving for a positive resolution and escalating to a supervisor when necessary.
  • Implement emergency response procedures as directed, including assisting with venue evacuations in a calm and organized fashion.
  • Conduct thorough but respectful security screenings of guests and their belongings, operating equipment such as metal detectors and wands as required.
  • Enforce all venue rules and regulations, including policies on prohibited items, alcohol consumption, and smoking, in a firm but courteous manner.
  • Assist guests with disabilities by providing information on accessible seating, routes, and services to ensure an inclusive and comfortable experience.
  • Maintain constant situational awareness to preemptively address potential conflicts or safety hazards before they escalate.
  • Secure restricted areas such as backstage, production zones, and VIP lounges, ensuring only authorized personnel gain access.
  • Communicate effectively with the event control room, supervisors, and fellow stewards using two-way radios, following established communication protocols.

Secondary Functions

  • Prepare and submit clear, concise, and accurate written reports on any incidents, accidents, or notable occurrences during a shift.
  • Assist with the setup and placement of directional signage, stanchions, and other crowd control equipment before the event begins.
  • Support the lost and found process by logging found items and assisting guests in retrieving their lost property.
  • Conduct post-event sweeps of assigned areas to check for remaining guests, lost property, and any facility damage.
  • Provide constructive feedback to supervisors during post-event debriefs to help improve operations and safety procedures for future events.
  • Collaborate with medical and emergency services personnel on-site to provide support during first aid or other incidents.
  • Participate in pre-event briefings and training sessions to stay updated on event-specific details, security concerns, and operational plans.

  • Crowd Management Techniques: Knowledge of principles for safely managing large groups of people in various situations.
  • Radio Communication Protocol: Proficient in using two-way radios for clear, concise, and professional communication.
  • Security Screening Procedures: Experience with bag checks, pat-downs, and operating security wands or metal detectors.
  • First Aid & CPR Certification: Certified and capable of providing basic emergency medical assistance until professional help arrives.
  • Incident Reporting: Ability to write clear, detailed, and objective reports documenting events and actions taken.
  • Access Control Systems: Familiarity with scanning tickets, checking credentials, and managing entry points.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Must possess any state-required security licensing or be able to obtain it.

Preferred Education:

  • Certificate or coursework in Hospitality, Criminal Justice, or Emergency Management.

Relevant Fields of Study:

  • Hospitality Management
  • Security and Protective Services

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0 - 2 years. This is often an entry-level position.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role such as retail, hospitality, or food service is highly valued.
