Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meticulously evaluate and score a high volume of student submissions, including essays, short-answer questions, and performance-based tasks, against established and detailed scoring rubrics.
  • Provide clear, concise, and constructive feedback on student work to guide their learning and demonstrate areas for improvement, adhering to specific project guidelines.
  • Consistently apply complex scoring guidelines and criteria with an exceptional degree of accuracy and inter-rater reliability to ensure the fairness and validity of the assessment process.
  • Successfully complete and pass a certification or qualification test prior to and during scoring projects to demonstrate mastery of the assessment rubric and materials.
  • Meet or exceed established productivity and quality assurance targets, including daily/hourly scoring quotas and accuracy benchmarks, in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and security regarding all student information, assessment materials, and scoring data in compliance with FERPA and other privacy regulations.
  • Operate proprietary online scoring systems and platforms efficiently, navigating between student responses, rubrics, and scoring tools with technical proficiency.
  • Maintain up-to-date, in-depth subject matter expertise in the content area being assessed (e.g., AP History, K-12 Mathematics, collegiate-level writing).
  • Review and interpret a wide range of student work, demonstrating the ability to fairly assess responses from diverse academic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Document scoring decisions and rationales clearly, especially for borderline or unusual cases, to support quality assurance checks and potential audits.
  • Manage personal workload and schedule effectively to ensure all assigned batches of evaluations are completed accurately and within the specified project timelines.
  • Undergo regular performance monitoring and quality checks, and remain receptive to coaching and feedback from supervisors to continuously improve scoring accuracy.
  • Participate actively in initial and ongoing calibration sessions with team leads and other evaluators to establish and maintain a shared understanding of scoring standards.

Secondary Functions

  • Identify and escalate ambiguous, unusual, or problematic student responses or technical platform issues to a Scoring Supervisor or Team Lead for timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with a team of remote evaluators, contributing to a professional and supportive virtual work environment through clear communication and shared best practices.
  • Provide expert feedback on the clarity and effectiveness of assessment questions, prompts, and rubrics to content development teams for future test improvement.
  • Analyze student performance data to identify common misconceptions, error patterns, or trends that can inform instructional strategies and curriculum adjustments.
  • Verify the authenticity of student work, flagging potential instances of plagiarism or academic dishonesty according to project-specific protocols.
  • Participate in back-reading and resolution scoring to settle disagreements between initial scorers and ensure a definitive, accurate score is assigned.
  • Adapt to changes in scoring rubrics, project guidelines, or software platforms quickly and effectively with minimal disruption to productivity.
  • Generate summary feedback or reports on scoring batches, highlighting key observations or challenges encountered during the evaluation process.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Demonstrable, in-depth knowledge in the specific academic discipline being evaluated (e.g., Biology, English Literature, Calculus, U.S. History).
  • Rubric Application: The ability to interpret and apply multi-faceted scoring rubrics consistently and accurately to varied and complex student work.
  • Technical Proficiency: High degree of comfort with learning and using web-based applications, proprietary scoring software, and online communication tools (Slack, Zoom, etc.).
  • Fast & Accurate Typing: Proficiency in keyboarding to efficiently score and provide written feedback in a production-oriented environment.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
