As a pivotal member of our operations team, the Exploitant Transport serves as the central command for all transportation activities. Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Organize and meticulously plan the daily and weekly schedules for a fleet of drivers, optimizing routes to maximize efficiency and minimize transit times and costs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers, providing them with clear instructions, necessary documentation, and real-time support for any issues encountered on the road.
  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of transport orders, from receiving client requests and booking shipments to confirming final delivery and handling proof of delivery (POD).
  • Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and GPS tracking software to monitor the real-time progress of shipments, proactively identifying and resolving potential delays or deviations.
  • Effectively communicate with clients to provide status updates, manage expectations, and professionally address any inquiries or concerns regarding their shipments.
  • Assign vehicles and drivers to specific jobs based on load requirements, driver availability, geographical considerations, and compliance with driving time regulations.
  • Negotiate rates and terms with partner carriers and freight forwarders (affrètement) to secure additional capacity when internal resources are insufficient.
  • Ensure all transport operations are conducted in strict compliance with national and international transport laws, including regulations on driving hours, weight limits, and hazardous materials.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any operational issues, such as vehicle breakdowns, traffic delays, delivery discrepancies, or customs hold-ups, with urgency and creativity.
  • Prepare and verify all necessary transport documentation, including bills of lading, delivery notes, customs paperwork, and consignment notes.
  • Manage and maintain strong professional relationships with a network of subcontracted carriers, evaluating their performance to ensure service quality.
  • Monitor and control transportation costs, including fuel, tolls, and maintenance, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and operational improvement.
  • Input and maintain accurate data within the company's TMS and ERP systems, ensuring all order information, statuses, and costs are up-to-date.
  • Collaborate closely with the warehouse team to coordinate loading and unloading schedules, ensuring a smooth and efficient flow of goods through the facility.
  • Analyze transport performance metrics (e.g., on-time delivery rates, cost per mile, vehicle utilization) to generate reports and provide insights for management.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of special transport projects, including oversized loads or time-sensitive deliveries that require complex coordination.
  • Handle administrative follow-up, including verifying carrier invoices against agreed rates and resolving any billing discrepancies.
  • Anticipate future transport needs based on sales forecasts and production schedules, engaging in proactive resource planning.
  • Uphold and enforce company safety standards and procedures among all drivers and transport partners to maintain a secure working environment.
  • Act as a key problem-solver, adapting plans swiftly in response to unforeseen challenges to ensure continuity of service and customer satisfaction.

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and perform exploratory analysis on transport performance metrics and cost trends.

  • Participate in sprint planning, team meetings, and agile ceremonies, providing valuable operational insights to the broader logistics team.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • High proficiency in using Transportation Management Systems (TMS), fleet management software, and route optimization tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of national and international transport regulations, including driver hours (Tachograph), customs procedures, and freight classifications.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of regional, national, and/or international road networks relevant to the operational scope.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced skills in Excel for data analysis, reporting, and tracking.
  • Experience with freight cost calculation, rate negotiation, and managing relationships with third-party carriers.
  • Ability to read and interpret transport documentation, such as Bills of Lading (BOL), CMR notes, and customs declarations.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Associate's Degree or an equivalent vocational/technical diploma (e.g., BTS/DUT in Transport & Logistics).

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 2-5 years of direct experience in a transport dispatch, logistics coordination, or freight planning role.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience within the specific sector (e.g., LTL/FTL freight, refrigerated goods, hazardous materials, or international freight forwarding) is highly advantageous. Experience working directly with a fleet of drivers is a significant plus.
