Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive external relations and public affairs strategies to advance the organization's goals and enhance its public image.
  • Proactively build and maintain strong, positive relationships with a diverse range of key external stakeholders, including government officials, elected representatives, regulatory bodies, and community leaders.
  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret political, legislative, and regulatory developments at the local, national, and international levels to identify potential risks and opportunities for the organization.
  • Provide expert counsel and strategic advice to senior leadership and executive teams on complex external affairs issues, public policy trends, and potential reputational impacts.
  • Draft and prepare a wide array of high-quality communication materials, including policy briefings, position papers, stakeholder correspondence, press releases, and formal submissions to government consultations.
  • Act as a primary spokesperson and represent the organization authentically and professionally at external forums, industry conferences, government meetings, and public hearings.
  • Lead the design and execution of targeted advocacy campaigns to influence public policy, shape legislative outcomes, and promote the organization's interests.
  • Cultivate and manage a robust network of influential contacts within government, industry, and non-governmental organizations to serve as a resource for intelligence and collaboration.
  • Serve as the central point of coordination between external affairs and internal departments such as Legal, Marketing, and Operations to ensure message alignment and integrated strategy.
  • Play a key role in the crisis management team by developing communication strategies and responding to sensitive external issues to protect the organization's reputation.
  • Identify, manage, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and impact of external relations initiatives and campaigns.
  • Conduct detailed stakeholder mapping and analysis to understand their interests, influence, and relationship with the organization, informing targeted engagement plans.
  • Ensure all lobbying and government engagement activities are conducted ethically and in full compliance with applicable laws and reporting requirements.
  • Manage budgets allocated for external affairs activities, including consultants, industry memberships, and events, ensuring optimal use of resources.
  • Develop and lead strategic partnership initiatives with other corporations, trade associations, and NGOs to build coalitions and amplify advocacy efforts.
  • Research and anticipate emerging societal and political issues that could affect the organization, developing proactive positioning and response strategies.
  • Organize and facilitate high-level meetings and events between the organization's executives and key external stakeholders to foster dialogue and strengthen relationships.
  • Support the development and promotion of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability programs to external audiences.
  • Collaborate with the media relations team to manage press inquiries, pitch positive stories, and ensure accurate and favorable coverage of the organization.
  • Prepare executives for public appearances and media interviews with comprehensive briefing materials, key messages, and Q&A documents.
  • Lead the company's participation in trade associations, guiding our strategic input and leveraging the association's platform to advance our objectives.
