Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Independently set up, calibrate, and operate single or twin-screw extrusion lines according to detailed work orders and production schedules.
- Perform complete tooling changeovers, including the installation and removal of dies, screws, and other auxiliary equipment.
- Monitor and meticulously adjust machine parameters such as temperature, pressure, feed rates, and line speed to maintain product quality and dimensional accuracy.
- Conduct first-piece, in-process, and final quality inspections using precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, and tape measures to ensure products meet specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve common processing issues, such as surging, melt fracture, and dimensional inconsistencies, to minimize downtime and scrap.
- Skillfully read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to ensure correct machine setup and product output.
- Manage the loading of hoppers with raw materials (e.g., plastic pellets, powders, additives) and ensure proper mixing and drying as required by the process.
- Operate downstream equipment associated with the extrusion line, including pullers, cutters, winders, and packaging machinery.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on extrusion machinery, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting components for wear and tear.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by adhering to all company safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and housekeeping standards.
- Accurately complete all required production documentation, including quality logs, process setting sheets, and daily output reports.
- Collaborate with the quality assurance team to identify and quarantine non-conforming products and assist in root cause analysis.
- Adjust machine settings to compensate for variations in raw materials or environmental conditions to ensure consistent product quality.
- Safely start up and shut down the extrusion line following established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Monitor equipment performance for signs of mechanical or electrical failure and report complex issues to the maintenance department promptly.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in the training and mentoring of new or less experienced machine operators on proper techniques and safety procedures.
- Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing events to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve safety.
- Support the inventory management of raw materials and finished goods by providing accurate counts and reporting discrepancies.
- Aid maintenance technicians during more extensive repairs or equipment overhauls by providing operational insight and assistance.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the tool and die storage area, ensuring all components are properly stored and accounted for.

- Extrusion Line Operation: Proven ability to set up, run, and troubleshoot industrial extrusion equipment (plastic, metal, or food).

Educational Background
Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range:
- 1-3 years of hands-on experience as a Machine Operator in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred:
- 2+ years of direct experience operating and setting up extrusion machinery. Experience with specific materials (e.g., PVC, Polyethylene, ABS) or types of extrusion (e.g., profile, sheet, film, pipe) is highly desirable.
