Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Set up, calibrate, and operate single or twin-screw extrusion lines according to detailed work orders, blueprints, and production schedules.
  • Continuously monitor machine parameters, including temperatures, pressures, line speed, and material flow, making precise adjustments to maintain product integrity and optimal performance.
  • Perform rigorous in-process quality control inspections using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures to ensure products meet strict dimensional and cosmetic specifications.
  • Execute complete tooling and die changes, including disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly, ensuring minimal downtime between production runs.
  • Read and accurately interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine machine setup, material requirements, and operational sequences.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve common operational and equipment issues, such as material blockages, temperature fluctuations, or dimensional deviations, to minimize scrap and delays.
  • Manage the material handling process, including loading raw materials like plastic pellets or resins into hoppers and dryers, and ensuring proper material traceability.
  • Safely perform start-up and shutdown procedures for all extrusion equipment in accordance with established company and safety protocols.
  • Document production and quality data with high accuracy, recording output, scrap rates, downtime, and process parameters in logs or a Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • Package, label, and palletize finished products according to customer specifications, ensuring proper handling and protection for shipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by adhering to 5S principles and company-wide safety policies.
  • Verify that all machine safety guards, interlocks, and emergency stop devices are in place and fully functional before and during operation.
  • Perform efficient color and material changes, executing purging procedures to minimize transition time and reduce material waste.
  • Identify and segregate non-conforming products, reporting defects to shift leads or the quality department for disposition.

Secondary Functions

  • Perform routine operator-level preventive maintenance tasks, such as lubrication, filter changes, and inspections, to enhance equipment reliability and longevity.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new or less experienced machine operators on standard operating procedures, safety practices, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with maintenance technicians to diagnose and resolve more complex mechanical or electrical equipment failures.
  • Participate actively in continuous improvement (Kaizen) events and provide valuable feedback to engineers and supervisors for process optimization.
  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, packaging supplies, and consumables, reporting potential shortages to the shift supervisor or materials team.
  • Ensure proper handling, weighing, and disposition of scrap material to support recycling initiatives and minimize environmental impact.
