Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Interpret and analyze complex engineering blueprints, technical drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and schematics to determine project requirements and fabrication sequences.
- Precisely measure, mark, and scribe cut lines and reference points on various raw materials, including sheet metal, structural steel, and aluminum extrusions.
- Set up, calibrate, and operate a diverse range of fabrication machinery, such as hydraulic press brakes, shears, rollers, band saws, and grinders to cut and shape components to exact specifications.
- Perform high-quality welding using various processes, including Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW/Stick), on materials like carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Execute precision fitting, tacking, and assembly of components into complex weldments and structures, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up before final welding.
- Operate computer numerical control (CNC) equipment, including plasma cutters, laser cutters, or water jets, by loading programs, setting up materials, and monitoring for quality.
- Conduct thorough in-process and final inspections of fabricated parts and assemblies using precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and protractors to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Perform intricate layout work, requiring strong knowledge of shop mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry to calculate dimensions and material requirements.
- Rework, repair, and modify defective or non-conforming components and assemblies to meet quality standards.
- Execute various finishing processes, including grinding, sanding, deburring, and preparing surfaces for painting, powder coating, or other treatments.
- Assemble mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and final products using a combination of welding, bolting, and riveting techniques.
- Collaborate directly with engineers and designers to provide critical feedback on manufacturability, offering suggestions to optimize designs for production efficiency and quality.
- Safely operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, overhead cranes, and pallet jacks, to move raw materials and finished goods throughout the facility.
- Develop and build jigs, fixtures, and templates to aid in the efficient and accurate production of repeating parts and assemblies.

- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on fabrication equipment to ensure optimal performance, safety, and longevity, logging all service activities.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Advanced Welding Proficiency: Expert-level skill in MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding on a variety of metals, particularly stainless steel and aluminum.
- Blueprint & Schematic Interpretation: Ability to read, understand, and execute work from complex engineering drawings, including weld symbols and GD&T.
- Metal Fabrication Equipment Operation: Mastery of standard fabrication tools, including press brakes, shears, band saws, rollers, and grinders.

Experience Requirements
