Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including detailed medical, social, and sexual health histories, to determine appropriate care plans.
- Provide in-depth, patient-centered counseling and education on all FDA-approved contraceptive methods, including their mechanisms, effectiveness, benefits, risks, and side effects.
- Perform and assist with clinical procedures such as cervical cancer screenings (Pap tests), colposcopy follow-ups, and HPV testing.
- Administer injectable contraceptives, vaccinations (like HPV), and other prescribed medications according to established protocols.
- Provide expert counseling on pregnancy options, including parenting, adoption, and abortion, in a neutral, supportive, and non-directive manner.
- Conduct confidential STI/HIV testing, deliver results, and provide post-test counseling, treatment, and partner notification services.
- Assist physicians or advanced practice providers with the insertion and removal of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) like IUDs and contraceptive implants.
- Accurately document all patient encounters, assessments, procedures, and communications in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system in a timely and compliant manner.
- Manage patient flow within the clinic to ensure efficient, high-quality service delivery while minimizing wait times.
- Triage patient phone calls and electronic messages, addressing clinical concerns, providing medical advice under nursing protocols, and scheduling appointments as needed.
- Educate patients on preconception health, fertility awareness, and strategies for achieving a healthy pregnancy.
- Perform phlebotomy for various laboratory tests and ensure proper specimen handling, labeling, and transport.
- Screen for and respond to sensitive issues such as intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and substance use, providing appropriate resources and referrals.
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control standards, ensuring a clean and safe environment for both patients and staff.
- Manage and maintain inventory of clinical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and contraceptive devices, placing orders as necessary.
- Follow up on abnormal lab results, diagnostic imaging, and specialist referrals, communicating findings and next steps to patients.
- Participate in peer review, case conferences, and quality assurance/quality improvement (QA/QI) initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
- Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate care, demonstrating sensitivity to diverse patient populations and backgrounds.

Education & Experience
Educational Background
