Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive, culturally sensitive biopsychosocial assessments and diagnostic evaluations for individuals, couples, and families to identify presenting problems and underlying needs.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly review individualized, strength-based treatment plans utilizing evidence-based modalities such as Systemic Family Therapy, CBT, EFT, or Structural Family Therapy.
  • Provide expert-level individual, group, and family therapy sessions, employing a range of therapeutic techniques to address complex relational dynamics and mental health conditions.
  • Maintain a full and consistent caseload, managing scheduling, client engagement, and therapeutic progress from intake through successful discharge.
  • Facilitate immediate crisis intervention and risk assessment for clients experiencing acute distress, including safety planning for suicidality, self-harm, or potential violence.
  • Complete timely, thorough, and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries, in accordance with HIPAA, agency policies, and state regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, case managers, and primary care physicians, to ensure integrated and holistic client care.
  • Engage in regular clinical supervision and peer case consultations to enhance therapeutic skills, address complex cases, and maintain high ethical standards of practice.
  • Provide psychoeducation to clients and their families on topics such as mental health diagnoses, coping mechanisms, effective communication, and healthy boundary-setting.
  • Act as a strong client advocate by connecting families with essential community resources, social services, and support networks to address social determinants of health.
  • Assess for and respond to issues of abuse, neglect, and domestic violence, fulfilling mandated reporting responsibilities in a timely and ethical manner.
  • Administer and interpret standardized clinical assessment tools to track client progress, measure outcomes, and inform ongoing treatment adjustments.
  • Manage all communication with insurance providers, including conducting utilization reviews and providing clinical justification to secure authorization for services.
  • Adhere to all legal, ethical, and professional standards set forth by state licensing boards and professional organizations like the AAMFT.
  • Provide culturally competent therapy that acknowledges and respects the diverse backgrounds, values, and beliefs of all clients.
  • Develop and maintain a strong therapeutic alliance with all clients, fostering an environment of trust, safety, and unconditional positive regard.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • A Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Counseling, Clinical Social Work, or a closely related field.
  • Active, unrestricted state licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Preferred Education:

  • A Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in a relevant clinical field.
  • AAMFT-approved Supervisor designation or candidacy.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 2-5 years of post-licensure experience providing direct therapeutic services to individuals, couples, and families in a clinical setting.
