Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive annual crop plans, including crop rotation, seed selection, and production schedules to maximize yield and profitability.
  • Direct and manage all cultivation activities, from strategic soil preparation and planting through irrigation, fertilization, and pest control, ensuring optimal resource utilization.
  • Lead all aspects of livestock management, including developing and executing breeding programs, formulating nutritional plans, and implementing comprehensive animal health and welfare protocols.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of heavy farm machinery and advanced agricultural equipment, ensuring operational readiness and safety.
  • Manage the farm's financial performance, including developing annual budgets, forecasting revenue, managing cash flow, and performing cost-benefit analysis on new investments.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate a diverse team of full-time farm staff and seasonal laborers, fostering a culture of safety, productivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal agricultural, environmental, and health and safety regulations, maintaining meticulous records for audits.
  • Design and manage efficient irrigation systems and water resources, employing conservation techniques to ensure sustainable water use.
  • Implement integrated pest management (IPM) and disease control strategies to protect crop and livestock health while minimizing environmental impact.
  • Monitor and analyze soil health through regular testing, implementing conservation practices and soil improvement techniques to ensure long-term land productivity.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all farm activities, including crop yields, livestock production, chemical applications, and financial transactions.
  • Spearhead the marketing and sale of farm products, negotiating contracts with buyers, distributors, and processing facilities to secure favorable terms.
  • Manage the procurement of all farm supplies, including seed, fertilizer, feed, and equipment parts, negotiating with vendors to obtain the best quality and price.
  • Lead daily and weekly team meetings to set operational priorities, delegate tasks effectively, and solve logistical challenges in real-time.
  • Conduct regular field and facility inspections to proactively assess crop conditions, livestock health, and infrastructure integrity.
  • Prepare and present regular, detailed operational and financial reports to farm owners, investors, or a board of directors.
