As a Farm Supervisor, you will be the backbone of our daily farm operations, reporting directly to the Farm Manager. You are responsible for the direct supervision, training, and motivation of our farm crew. This position is crucial for executing the farm's production plan, from planting and cultivation to harvest and post-harvest handling. Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct, coordinate, and supervise the daily activities of farm workers and laborers, including delegating tasks related to planting, irrigation, chemical application, harvesting, and grading.
  • Develop and implement daily and weekly work schedules to ensure all operational targets are met efficiently and in alignment with seasonal crop or livestock production cycles.
  • Train new and existing employees on proper farming techniques, equipment operation, health and safety procedures, and quality control standards to foster a skilled and safe workforce.
  • Oversee the operation and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on a wide range of farm machinery and equipment, such as tractors, planters, and harvesters, to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor crop health by regularly scouting fields for signs of pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies, and implement appropriate control measures in consultation with the Farm Manager.
  • Manage and supervise all aspects of livestock care, including feeding schedules, administering medications, monitoring animal health, and coordinating breeding programs.
  • Enforce all workplace safety regulations and food safety protocols (such as GlobalG.A.P.) to ensure a safe working environment and the production of high-quality, compliant agricultural products.
  • Manage farm resources and inventory, including tracking the usage of seeds, fertilizers, chemicals, and animal feed, and notifying management when supplies are low.
  • Implement and manage irrigation schedules and systems to ensure optimal water usage and crop hydration, performing adjustments and repairs as necessary.
  • Uphold and enforce quality control standards throughout the production process, from planting to post-harvest, ensuring products meet company and market specifications.
  • Lead and motivate the farm crew by setting a positive example, providing constructive feedback, and resolving interpersonal conflicts to maintain high morale and productivity.
  • Operate heavy machinery and farm vehicles safely and efficiently to perform various agricultural tasks as needed to support the team.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of farm activities, including employee time sheets, spray records, harvest yields, and equipment maintenance logs.
  • Coordinate logistics for harvesting, packing, and transportation of farm products to ensure timely delivery and minimize spoilage.
  • Assess soil conditions and participate in the development and execution of soil health and nutrient management plans.
  • Communicate effectively with the Farm Manager regarding crop progress, labor issues, equipment status, and other operational updates.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the Farm Manager in developing budgets, estimating labor needs, and purchasing supplies like seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.
  • Maintain detailed operational records, including but not limited to crew timecards, daily field activities, pesticide application logs, and harvest yield data.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of new farming technologies and sustainable agricultural practices to improve efficiency and environmental stewardship.
  • Act as a key point of communication between farm labor and upper management, reporting on progress, challenges, and personnel issues.
  • Support facility and grounds maintenance, ensuring all farm buildings, fences, and roads are kept in good and safe condition.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Farm Equipment Operation: Proficiency in operating and performing basic maintenance on a variety of agricultural equipment, including tractors, loaders, planters, sprayers, and harvesting machinery.
  • Crop Production Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of modern crop production techniques, including soil preparation, planting, irrigation management (drip, sprinkler), and integrated pest management (IPM).
  • Livestock Management: Experience with livestock management, including knowledge of animal nutrition, health monitoring, breeding cycles, and humane handling practices (if applicable).
  • Irrigation Systems: Strong understanding of the installation, operation, and maintenance of various agricultural irrigation systems.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong mechanical skills for troubleshooting and resolving equipment malfunctions and performing minor repairs in the field.
  • Pesticide/Fertilizer Application: Possession of or ability to obtain a Private Pesticide Applicator License and knowledge of safe and effective application methods.
  • Technology Proficiency: Competency in using farm management software, GPS technology, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) for record-keeping, planning, and reporting.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a farming or agricultural environment.

Preferred: At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity, managing a crew of 5 or more individuals. Experience with the specific crops or livestock relevant to the operation (e.g., row crops, vegetables, dairy, poultry) is highly desirable.
