Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Install a variety of fence types including wood, vinyl (PVC), chain-link, aluminum, and composite materials according to precise specifications.
Accurately measure and lay out fence lines, marking post locations and ensuring proper alignment with property lines and project plans.
Dig post holes to the required depth and diameter using hand tools, gas-powered augers, or skid-steer attachments.
Set posts securely in concrete, ensuring they are plumb, level, and at the correct height and spacing for a stable, long-lasting structure.
Assemble and fasten fence sections, panels, rails, and pickets using a variety of fasteners and professional techniques.
Install, hang, and adjust gates, ensuring proper swing, alignment, and secure latching and locking functionality.
Perform repairs on existing fences, including replacing damaged posts, pickets, rails, and hardware to restore integrity and appearance.
Operate a wide range of power tools with proficiency, such as circular saws, miter saws, drills, impact drivers, and pneumatic nail guns.
Safely operate small heavy equipment, including skid steers and mini-excavators, for digging, material handling, and site preparation.
Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and work orders to determine project requirements, layouts, and material needs.
Load and unload fencing materials, tools, and equipment from company vehicles, ensuring proper handling and securing of all loads for safe transport.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site at all times, including daily cleanup of debris, scraps, and materials.
Conduct demolition and removal of old fencing and related debris from the work area in an efficient and safe manner.
Ensure all work is performed in strict compliance with company safety policies, OSHA standards, and local building codes.
Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, crew leads, and project managers to provide status updates and address any on-site concerns.
Stretch and secure chain-link and other wire fencing to posts, ensuring proper tension and a clean, professional finish.
Prepare the ground along the fence line, which may include light grading and clearing of brush, roots, or other obstacles.
Mix and pour concrete for post footings, following correct material ratios and established procedures for maximum strength.
Troubleshoot and resolve installation challenges that arise on the job site, applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of all company tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure they are in good working order.
Verify property lines and confirm the location of underground utilities before beginning any excavation to prevent damage and costly errors.
Calculate material quantities needed for jobs to minimize waste and ensure all necessary components are available for project completion.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Proficiency with carpentry tools and power tools (miter saw, circular saw, level, auger, etc.).
Proven experience with various fence installation techniques (wood, vinyl, chain-link, aluminum).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and work orders accurately.
Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are often required.
Knowledge of concrete mixing, pouring, and curing fundamentals.
