Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Proactively patrol assigned geographical areas in a vehicle, on foot, or via other specialized methods to maintain high visibility, deter criminal activity, and ensure the security of residents and businesses.
Respond swiftly and safely to a wide range of emergency and non-emergency calls for service, including disturbances, alarms, accidents, crimes in progress, and medical emergencies.
Conduct thorough and impartial preliminary investigations of criminal incidents, which includes securing crime scenes to preserve evidence, identifying and collecting physical evidence, and documenting scene details.
Interview victims, witnesses, complainants, and suspects to gather critical information, establish sequences of events, and determine potential motives and leads.
Enforce all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances by identifying violations, issuing citations, and making arrests when legally justified, ensuring proper procedure is followed.
Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive incident reports, arrest affidavits, search warrant applications, and other official documents in compliance with departmental standards and legal requirements.
Testify professionally and credibly in court proceedings, including depositions, preliminary hearings, and trials, presenting evidence and facts of a case to support prosecution.
Render immediate first aid and emergency medical assistance to injured persons, including CPR and AED application, pending the arrival of emergency medical services personnel.
Mediate and de-escalate a variety of civil disputes, family disturbances, and neighborhood conflicts, utilizing conflict resolution techniques to restore peace without resorting to enforcement action where possible.
Perform traffic enforcement duties to promote roadway safety, including monitoring for speeding and impaired drivers, conducting traffic stops, investigating traffic collisions, and directing traffic flow.
Execute arrest and search warrants as directed by a court, planning operations to ensure the safety of officers, suspects, and the public during execution.
Maintain a high level of proficiency with departmental firearms, less-lethal weapons, and other law enforcement equipment through regular training, qualification, and proper care.
Engage in community-oriented policing activities, attending neighborhood meetings, visiting schools, and collaborating with local organizations to build trust and solve community problems collaboratively.
Transport and process prisoners in a safe, secure, and humane manner, including booking procedures, fingerprinting, and ensuring their welfare while in custody.
Conduct routine security checks of residential properties, businesses, and public facilities to identify vulnerabilities and prevent criminal opportunities like burglary and vandalism.
Investigate suspicious persons, vehicles, and circumstances by making lawful inquiries and observations to determine if a threat to public safety exists.

Secondary Functions
