Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Spearhead the entire film production lifecycle, from initial concept development and script acquisition through pre-production, principal photography, post-production, and final delivery.
  • Identify, option, and develop commercially viable and creatively compelling intellectual property, including screenplays, books, and original story ideas.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive financing strategies, preparing pitch decks and business plans to secure funding from investors, studios, and production grants.
  • Create, manage, and meticulously track the master production budget, ensuring all departments operate within their allocated funds and providing regular financial reports to stakeholders.
  • Lead the recruitment and hiring of key creative and technical personnel, including the director, screenwriter, cinematographer, production designer, and department heads.
  • Negotiate complex contracts and agreements with cast, crew, vendors, unions (SAG-AFTRA, DGA, IATSE), and service providers to ensure legal and financial compliance.
  • Oversee the creation and continuous management of the master production schedule, setting key milestones and ensuring all deadlines are met across all project phases.
  • Provide direct creative input and guidance throughout the project's development, offering notes on script drafts, casting choices, and the final edit to maintain the film's vision.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the director, studio executives, financiers, and distributors, facilitating clear communication and managing expectations for all stakeholders.
  • Supervise all logistical aspects of pre-production, including location scouting, casting sessions, departmental planning, and the creation of detailed shooting plans.
  • Manage on-set operations during principal photography, working closely with the Line Producer and 1st AD to solve problems, address challenges, and keep the production on schedule and budget.
  • Oversee the entire post-production process, including editing, visual effects (VFX), sound design, music composition, and color grading, ensuring a high-quality final product.
  • Develop and collaborate on the execution of the film's marketing, publicity, and distribution strategy to maximize audience reach and commercial success.
  • Ensure the production adheres to all legal requirements, including securing permits, clearances, insurance coverage (E&O, general liability), and on-set safety protocols.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with a network of industry professionals, including agents, managers, financiers, and distribution executives.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to creative, financial, logistical, and legal aspects of the production.
  • Review and approve all major creative and financial decisions, serving as the final authority on matters impacting the project's direction and viability.
  • Manage the creation and delivery of all required assets to distributors, including the final master, marketing materials, and legal documentation.
  • Represent the film at industry markets, festivals, and premieres to promote the project and secure distribution deals.
  • Lead and motivate a large and diverse production team, fostering a collaborative, efficient, and positive work environment under high-pressure conditions.
  • Track industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving distribution models to inform strategic decision-making and maintain a competitive edge.
