Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Operate and maintain digital cinema projectors (such as Christie, Barco, NEC) and associated servers, ensuring optimal picture and sound quality for all screenings.
- Expertly manage the ingestion, organization, and quality control (QC) of Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs), ensuring all content is correctly loaded and validated on the Theater Management System (TMS).
- Securely manage and apply Key Delivery Messages (KDMs) to unlock encrypted film content, troubleshooting any expiring or invalid keys to prevent show cancellations.
- Build, program, and execute pre-show playlists, integrating trailers, advertisements, and custom cinema content into a seamless, automated schedule for each screening.
- Conduct regular picture and sound calibration checks, including focus, framing, light levels, and audio channel configuration, to maintain presentation standards.
- Actively monitor live screenings to provide immediate quality assurance, addressing any arising audio, visual, or automation issues in real-time to prevent audience disruption.
- Operate and maintain 35mm and/or 70mm film projectors, including skilled execution of dual-projector changeovers for uninterrupted archival and repertory screenings.
- Perform detailed inspections of archival film prints, checking for damage, performing necessary splices, and cleaning the prints to ensure safe passage through the projector.
- Execute first-line technical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on all projection and audio equipment, including replacing lamps, cleaning optical components, and changing filters.
- Maintain a comprehensive log of all screenings, technical issues, lamp-life hours, and maintenance activities for reporting and archival purposes.
- Configure and test assistive-viewing technologies, such as closed captioning devices and descriptive video narration systems, ensuring ADA compliance and accessibility for all guests.
- Collaborate directly with distributors and technical support teams to resolve complex content delivery, KDM, or equipment-related problems.
- Prepare the projection booth for operation before the first show of the day and properly shut down all equipment at the close of business.
- Manage alternative content presentations, including live satellite-fed events, private rentals, and gaming events, which may require custom technical setups.
Secondary Functions
- Support special events, film festivals, and premieres, which may require flexible hours and unique presentation setups outside of standard scheduling.
- Assist theater management in maintaining an accurate inventory of consumable parts, such as bulbs, filters, and lenses.
- Provide basic technical training and guidance to floor staff and managers on common presentation-related issues.
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the projection booth and related technical storage areas.
- Liaise with the programming and marketing departments to confirm the correct versions and formats of trailers and on-screen promotional materials.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Deep knowledge of Digital Cinema Projection (DCP) standards, digital servers (such as GDC, Dolby, or Doremi), and Theater Management Systems (TMS).
