Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Design, fabricate, and install complex, custom rigging systems for performer flying, aerial sequences, and dynamic stunts, ensuring all systems meet or exceed industry safety standards.
Execute precise load calculations and stress analysis for all rigging points, structures, and equipment to guarantee structural integrity and performer safety under dynamic, live-action loads.
Collaborate extensively with the Stunt Coordinator, Director, and Director of Photography to understand the creative requirements of a stunt and develop safe, effective, and camera-friendly rigging solutions.
Conduct thorough pre-shoot safety briefings and equipment inspections with stunt performers and crew, clearly communicating the operational parameters and emergency procedures for each setup.
Operate manual and automated rigging systems, including high-speed winches, descenders, and counterweight systems, with precise timing and control during filming to achieve the desired on-screen effect.
Fit, adjust, and meticulously inspect performer harnesses, wires, and personal protective equipment (PPE) before every take to ensure a secure, comfortable, and safe fit for high-stress movements.
Assemble and erect large-scale rigging structures, such as trusses, towers, dead-weights, and temporary anchor points, both on location and in studio environments.
Develop, document, and rehearse high-angle rescue plans, and be prepared to execute them immediately in the event of an emergency during a stunt sequence.
Maintain, inspect, and log all rigging equipment, including ropes, cables, hardware, harnesses, and machinery, according to a strict maintenance schedule and manufacturer guidelines.
Read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and plot plans to accurately implement rigging designs within the physical constraints of a set or location.
Develop comprehensive Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for all rigging operations, identifying potential hazards and outlining clear mitigation strategies for production management.

Supervise, train, and mentor a team of junior riggers and grips, delegating tasks effectively and enforcing adherence to all established safety protocols on set.
Scout potential filming locations to assess their feasibility for complex rigging setups, identifying suitable anchor points and potential environmental or structural challenges.
Implement and operate specialized rigging systems such as decelerators, air rams, and pneumatic ratchets for high falls, jerk-backs, and other high-impact stunts.

Secondary Functions
