Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Plan, execute, and lead comprehensive financial, operational, and compliance audits in accordance with professional auditing standards.
  • Develop risk-based audit programs by evaluating the company's financial systems, internal control frameworks, and operational processes.
  • Examine financial statements, general ledgers, and supporting documentation to ensure they are presented fairly and accurately, in compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Perform detailed testing of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR), including walkthroughs and tests of design and operating effectiveness, particularly for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
  • Analyze and evaluate accounting documentation, reports, data, and flowcharts to gain a thorough understanding of business processes and identify areas of risk.
  • Utilize data analytics tools and techniques to perform substantive testing, identify anomalies, and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of audit procedures.
  • Document audit procedures, testing results, and findings meticulously in high-quality audit workpapers that can withstand internal and external review.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and impactful audit reports that summarize key findings, articulate the associated risks, and provide actionable recommendations for remediation to management and the audit committee.
  • Communicate audit results and identified control deficiencies to various levels of management, collaborating with them to develop practical and effective management action plans.
  • Conduct follow-up procedures to monitor the implementation and effectiveness of management's remediation efforts for previously identified audit issues.
  • Stay abreast of evolving industry trends, business activities, and changes in accounting principles, audit standards, and regulations to assess their impact on the organization.
  • Assist in the enterprise-wide risk assessment process to help identify key financial and operational risks and inform the annual audit plan.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the company's external auditors to support the annual financial statement audit, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • Investigate potential instances of fraud or non-compliance, applying professional skepticism and forensic techniques as needed.
  • Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of the company's governance, risk management, and control processes.

  • US GAAP / IFRS Proficiency: Deep understanding of accounting principles and standards for accurate financial reporting.
  • SOX Compliance: Expertise in Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, particularly sections 302 and 404 regarding internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).
  • Risk Assessment & Management: Ability to identify, analyze, and evaluate financial and operational risks within business processes.
  • Audit Software & GRC Tools: Proficiency with audit management software (e.g., AuditBoard, Workiva, TeamMate) and Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel: Mastery of Excel for data manipulation, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP, and complex formulas.
  • Data Analytics & Visualization: Experience using data analysis tools (e.g., ACL, IDEA, Alteryx, SQL, Tableau, Power BI) to analyze large datasets and identify trends or anomalies.
  • ERP Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with major ERP systems like SAP, Oracle NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics and their underlying data structures.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Master’s degree in Accounting (MAcc), Business Administration (MBA), or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is highly preferred.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 2-7+ years of progressive experience in public accounting (assurance/audit services) or an internal audit function within a publicly-traded company.

Preferred:

  • Experience with a "Big 4" or large national accounting firm is highly desirable.
  • Holding an active CPA license is a significant advantage. A Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) certification is also valued.
  • Proven experience auditing in a specific industry relevant to the employer (e.g., manufacturing, technology, financial services).
