Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop, maintain, and enhance complex financial models to support business case development, project valuation, and investment return (ROI) analysis.
- Manage the end-to-end financial lifecycle of multiple, concurrent projects, from initial ideation and approval through to execution, monitoring, and close-out.
- Collaborate directly with Project Managers to create detailed, time-phased project budgets, resource plans, and cost forecasts.
- Track and analyze project expenditures, including labor, materials, and third-party vendor costs, ensuring proper coding and adherence to budget.
- Conduct rigorous monthly and quarterly variance analysis, comparing actual project costs against budget and forecast, and provide clear, actionable explanations for discrepancies.
- Prepare and present comprehensive financial status reports, executive summaries, and dashboards for senior management and key project stakeholders.
- Lead financial review meetings with project teams to discuss performance, identify potential risks and opportunities, and drive financial accountability.
- Evaluate the financial impact of project change requests, providing thorough analysis to support the change control board's decision-making process.
- Manage the capital expenditure (CapEx) and operational expenditure (OpEx) approval process for assigned projects, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
- Develop and implement robust financial tracking mechanisms and reporting templates to improve the visibility and accuracy of project financial data.
- Perform detailed cost-benefit and sensitivity analysis for proposed projects to support the portfolio prioritization process.
- Assist in the development of the annual operating plan (AOP) and long-range strategic plans by providing project-related financial inputs.
- Ensure all project-related financial activities and reporting comply with company policies, internal controls, and relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP/IFRS).
- Partner with the accounting team to facilitate the month-end close process, including accruals, reclassifications, and capitalization of project assets.
- Analyze resource utilization and capacity planning from a financial perspective to ensure optimal allocation across the project portfolio.
- Identify and implement process improvements within project financial management to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and strategic support to the PMO and business leaders to address emerging challenges and opportunities.
- Monitor financial risks associated with projects, develop mitigation strategies, and escalate significant issues to leadership in a timely manner.
- Conduct post-mortem financial reviews upon project completion to assess overall performance against the original business case and capture lessons learned.
- Serve as the primary finance subject matter expert (SME) for project teams, providing guidance and training on financial processes and systems.
