Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Provide legendary customer service by greeting and engaging every customer, ensuring a welcoming and professional atmosphere at the firearms counter.
- Utilize deep product knowledge to expertly guide customers through the selection of firearms, ammunition, optics, and related accessories based on their needs and experience level.
- Execute all firearm sales transactions in strict compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including the accurate and diligent completion of ATF Form 4473 and NICS background checks.
- Diligently maintain the firearm's Acquisition and Disposition (A&D) records, ensuring the electronic or physical "Bound Book" is accurate and up-to-date at all times.
- Educate customers on responsible firearm ownership, safe handling practices, proper storage, and cleaning techniques.
- Proactively generate sales by up-selling and cross-selling relevant products such as cleaning kits, cases, safes, and training courses.
- Drive sales to meet and exceed individual and department sales goals and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Assess and process firearm trade-ins, evaluating condition and market value according to established company guidelines.
- Handle customer inquiries, special orders, and layaway programs for firearms with professionalism and efficiency.
- Perform basic firearm maintenance, including scope mounting, bore sighting, and minor adjustments for customers.
- Stay current with industry trends, new product releases, and changes in firearms legislation to act as a knowledgeable resource for both customers and team members.
- Ensure all firearms on display are properly secured and handled according to strict safety protocols, both during and after business hours.
- Respond to and resolve customer concerns or complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner, escalating to management when necessary.
- Assist the department manager in identifying and resolving any potential compliance issues or discrepancies in paperwork or inventory.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in the receiving, logging, and security tagging of all incoming firearm shipments, verifying serial numbers and quantities against invoices.
- Create an appealing and organized sales floor by merchandising the firearms counter, showcases, and surrounding areas according to company standards.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and cycle checks to ensure inventory accuracy and prevent loss.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management regarding customer needs, inventory levels, and operational challenges.
- Participate in and contribute to regular team meetings, training sessions, and product knowledge seminars.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, including the sales counter, back stock areas, and any associated gunsmithing benches.
- Support other departments, such as hunting or archery, during peak traffic periods as needed.

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must be able to pass a thorough background check and be legally eligible to possess firearms.
Preferred Education:
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.
- Completion of gunsmithing or armorer certification courses.

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of experience in a retail sales environment, preferably with a direct focus on firearms, hunting, or shooting sports.

- Prior experience processing ATF Form 4473 and working with an electronic A&D Bound Book is highly desirable.
