Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Supervise, mentor, and formally evaluate a team of firearms personnel, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional excellence.
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine comprehensive firearms training programs, covering everything from basic marksmanship to advanced tactical scenarios and less-lethal options.
- Lead and manage all live-fire range operations, enforcing strict adherence to safety protocols, range commands, and executing emergency action plans with precision.
- Ensure all team members achieve and maintain required firearms qualifications and certifications through regularly scheduled training, drills, and performance assessments.
- Manage the complete lifecycle and accountability of all departmental firearms, ammunition, and tactical equipment, including acquisition, inventory control, secure storage, and scheduled maintenance.
- Maintain meticulous, audit-ready records for all firearms inventories, training participation, qualification scores, and ammunition expenditures in compliance with federal (ATF), state, and local regulations.
- Serve as the organization's primary subject matter expert on firearms, ballistics, and tactical employment, providing critical guidance and technical expertise to senior leadership.
- Develop, review, and update Use of Force policies, procedures, and training curricula to align with current legal standards and industry best practices.
- Conduct detailed pre-operational risk assessments and deliver comprehensive safety briefings for all training exercises and potential operational deployments.
- Lead structured after-action reviews and debriefings following significant training events or critical incidents to identify key lessons learned and implement corrective actions.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute realistic, scenario-based training drills that challenge team members' tactical skills and decision-making capabilities under stress.
- Oversee the maintenance and operational readiness of the armory and all firing range facilities, ensuring they are safe, clean, and properly equipped for training.
