Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Deliver high-quality, patient, and clear instruction on fishing techniques, including but not limited to fly casting, spin casting, knot tying, and lure/fly selection.
- Lead guided fishing trips on local lakes, rivers, and streams, navigating safely and selecting locations based on weather, water conditions, and fish activity.
- Customize each instructional session and guided trip to the specific skill levels, physical abilities, and personal goals of a diverse clientele, from complete beginners to seasoned anglers.
- Provide expert knowledge on local fish species, their habitats, behaviors, and effective methods for targeting them throughout different seasons.
- Demonstrate and enforce proper catch-and-release techniques to minimize stress on fish and promote the long-term health of the fishery.
- Act as a primary safety officer on the water, conducting pre-trip safety briefings and maintaining constant vigilance to mitigate potential risks associated with weather, wildlife, and water hazards.
- Educate guests on local ecology, conservation issues, and the importance of ethical angling practices and environmental stewardship.
- Proactively manage the guest experience, ensuring clients are comfortable, engaged, and enjoying their time through excellent communication and storytelling.
- Assist guests with rigging tackle, selecting appropriate gear from inventory, and performing minor on-the-water equipment repairs to prevent loss of fishing time.
- Read water conditions, currents, and structures to strategically position guests for the highest probability of success.
- Maintain a professional and positive demeanor at all times, adeptly handling challenges and managing group dynamics to ensure a positive atmosphere.
- Operate and maintain watercraft, such as drift boats, rafts, or motorboats, with a high degree of skill and adherence to all boating safety regulations.
Secondary Functions
- Meticulously clean, maintain, and organize all company-owned fishing equipment, including rods, reels, waders, boots, and tackle after each use.
- Conduct regular inventory checks of all fishing-related supplies and equipment, reporting any needs for repair, replacement, or restocking to management.
- Assist in the development and planning of new fishing programs, clinics, and special events to attract a wider range of guests.
- Capture high-quality photos and videos of guests and their catches (with permission) for their personal use and for the company's marketing materials.
- Stay current on all local, state, and federal fishing regulations and ensure both personal and client compliance at all times.
- Provide detailed trip reports, including guest feedback, fish counts, and any notable observations about conditions or wildlife.
- Contribute to retail operations by offering expert advice to customers and assisting with sales of fishing gear, tackle, and apparel.
- Participate in habitat improvement projects, stream clean-ups, and other conservation initiatives organized by the company or local partners.
- Act as a brand ambassador, positively representing the company both on and off the water within the local community and fishing industry.

Required Skills & Competencies

- Advanced Angling Proficiency: Demonstrable expertise in multiple fishing disciplines, especially fly fishing and spin casting.
- Casting Instruction: Ability to break down and teach various casting strokes (e.g., overhead cast, roll cast, Spey cast) effectively.

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range: 2-5 years of extensive personal fishing experience, particularly in the local region, combined with some experience in a teaching, coaching, or customer-facing role.
Preferred: 3+ years of professional experience as a fishing guide or instructor, with a verifiable history of providing high-quality guest experiences. Experience operating drift boats or other watercraft in challenging conditions is highly desirable.
