Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct initial fitness consultations and comprehensive health assessments to understand client goals, physical condition, lifestyle factors, and medical history.
  • Design and implement safe, effective, and highly personalized exercise programs tailored to individual client needs, preferences, and fitness levels.
  • Instruct and demonstrate proper exercise techniques and equipment usage, providing hands-on corrections to ensure client safety and maximize workout effectiveness.
  • Actively monitor and meticulously track client progress through regular check-ins and formal reassessments, adjusting fitness plans as needed to overcome plateaus and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Provide foundational nutritional guidance and practical lifestyle advice to complement workout routines and support clients in achieving holistic wellness.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for members, proactively building strong relationships and fostering a sense of community and belonging within the facility.
  • Drive member engagement and retention by providing exceptional customer service and consistent, motivational follow-up communication.
  • Generate personal training revenue by effectively promoting and selling personal training packages and other fitness services that align with member needs.
  • Conduct complimentary introductory training sessions and equipment orientations for new members to ensure a positive and confident start to their fitness journey.
  • Maintain a highly professional and energetic presence on the fitness floor, being readily available to answer questions, offer assistance, and provide spot-training.
  • Stay current with the latest fitness industry trends, research, and technologies to provide clients with the most up-to-date and effective training methods.
  • Uphold all company policies and safety procedures to ensure a secure and welcoming environment for all members and staff.
  • Manage client schedules, appointments, and records with a high degree of organization and professionalism using our client management software.
  • Motivate clients to push beyond their perceived limits by setting clear, achievable goals and celebrating their milestones and achievements.
  • Lead small group training sessions or specialized fitness workshops, creating an energetic and collaborative workout atmosphere.
  • Respond to all member inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner, working to resolve issues and enhance the member experience.
  • Actively prospect for new clients from the gym's member base and through external networking and outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with the membership sales team to integrate fitness services into the new member onboarding process.
  • Confidently guide clients through periods of low motivation, providing the empathy and encouragement needed to stay committed to their program.
  • Ensure all client documentation, including health history, liability waivers, and progress notes, is completed accurately and kept confidential.
  • Develop and maintain a strong referral network by consistently delivering exceptional results and a world-class client experience.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized fitness floor, including re-racking weights and reporting any equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Participate in community outreach events, health fairs, and corporate wellness workshops to promote the facility's brand and services.
  • Contribute engaging content for the facility's social media channels, such as fitness tips, exercise demonstrations, or member success stories.
  • Support front desk operations during peak hours or as needed, including member check-ins and answering general inquiries.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Nationally Recognized Personal Training Certification (e.g., NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Proficient in conducting a variety of fitness assessments (e.g., body composition analysis, cardiovascular endurance tests, strength, and flexibility screening).
  • Deep knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and exercise physiology.
  • Ability to design comprehensive and progressive training programs for diverse populations, including those with special considerations.
  • Skilled in demonstrating a wide range of exercises and correcting form in real-time.
  • Competency in using fitness-related technology and client management software.
  • Foundational knowledge of nutrition and its role in achieving fitness goals.
  • Proven sales skills with the ability to present the value of personal training services.
  • Experience with various training modalities, including free weights, resistance machines, functional training, and cardio equipment.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A valid, nationally accredited Personal Training Certification.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • Experience working with special populations (e.g., seniors, post-rehab clients, athletes).
